Week 22

Few things that crossed my mind..
Market closed weak on Fri, was looking forward to the start of a new week! But dad, the kiasi investor wasnt keen on buying. Initially his concerns were on PedraBranca. But even after positive world court ruling outcomes, he gave me other reasons! Sighs.
W.Buffet says US is already in recession. Somebody tell us whats gonna happen next please!

Post work for this week.
Mon-Track&Alumni meeting.
The alumni meeting gave me a positive insight to the pay im currently drawing. Gross salary is lower than in the private sector due to benefits(medical, dental, lifestyle) and leave scheme. I am stupid to have overlooked, to have not taken this into consideration.

The grass is greener on the other side, cause there's more shit(fertiliser).

The following is purely my current point of view. Views might/will change. And im saying not cause i'm already on the other side.
I think we need to understand that our clientele is not entirely dependant on our patients, whether they accept 0ral hea1th therapis+s or not. I cant deny the fact that how we portray ourselves and how we execute our service directly affects their attitude towards a changing system in dental care in Sg. The emphasis lies in clinic management. See it this way.
1) If your d0ctor-in-charge thinks you're cutting a piece off his pie, then you'll only get patients when he has better things to do. But if your DIC thinks that by delegating procedures frees up his time for complex procedures, then im rather positive one wont be slapping on mosquitos all the time.
2) If the system at the clinic is such that "my doctor does not do ___ at all, you'll have to schedule an appointment with my RD|-|." Then there's no need to worry bout eating grass for the month.
3) Hmmm. What else. Ok.
As much as pay packet is the main point of focus for those heading to the private sector, i think there're a few factors for consideration when joining a team, such as, most importantly, (1) learning opportunities. Whether the DIC is willing to impart little skills, such as taking intra oral photographs, x rays (?), case presentation to patient, short courses/lectures, amongst many other things i cant think of right now. (2) Assistance. (3) Clinic management, whether there's room for open and frank discussion. And what else, you tell me?

Tues-Track&XenBar.
A1an Yip once asked, how often do we get compliments-i just did! Its been a long while since i last got a taste of job satisfaction. Im on my way to a full mouth rehab for a 7year old child. On all of her very badly rotten deciduous lower molarS, i did 4 tooth coloured fillings that look like ceramic crowns! Showed the before and after to her and her dad. He was very impressed! The kid immediately went, 'thank you jie jie'. Her oral hygiene has improved tremendously since her initial visit with moi. *Skips around* Next up is to Fuji7(fissure seal) all her permanent molars. Extract her deciduous root stumps, leaving only deciduous canines for anchorage, an E(another 'crown'!) and her perm 6s. And claim my hard earned Dental Treatment Completed quota. *Phew.

Exercise cut due to bad weather.

I just returned home from a good tongue lash and I'm still feeling ticklish! I think i really need a little booster dose of 'scolding' once in awhile. Tee hee hee. Sunday. Hope i dont get IT againnnnnn! Oh yes, I found a walking kaki, Diana, from private class!
The balls of my feet are hurting and its time i turn in!

Wed-Salsa class, wasnt quite worth mentioning. :( I dont exactly follow the 1.5 turn cross body lead. Thurs-Track. Replace 'k' with 'y'. I miss that lady so much, i had so much to tell her! Fri-Tango class. Sat-Swim. Sun-Practica!

Few Things

Inserted 24th May Sat 0100hrs.
My mudder is stepping on my last nerves(again). She is taking me for granted and always being way too biased.
Awhile ago, she asked me to submit(and take full charge of) Nati0nal Day Parade e-ballot applications, of which i got down to it immediately. Moments later, she came yelling "put my mobile cause you always miss (my) calls" "But i used mine already" Here's the nerve wrecking part, "you always do things without consulting me".

What shiat, you tell me. If i had to be given detailed instructions to do any/everything, i'd be building blocks out of Leg0, instead of doing what deems fit.

After all is said. Too bad lahh. Too bad im not her precious sonny who whines day in day out, and the list of disgusting things i know i'd never do/say to my mother.
What the fuck, seriously.

Call it the Middle Child Syndrome.

A FKING HUGE FLYABLE COCKROACH JUST FLEW INTO MY HUMBLE QUATERS.
I immediately covered my mouth and yelled, 'MUMMY! COCKROACH!'
2 seconds. And life was back to normal.

"Never go to a doctor whose office plants have died"
Glad to see rudimentary foliage (leaf bud) at the office!

Queen sized bed arriving on 24th June 08! :( Who wants to bunk in with moi!? Start q-ing to slumberland!
For the sake of my counting nights with this intimate inanimate object, i laid, felt its embrace and very naturally got into deep thought..

Wedding bells have been ringing and it makes me wonder, what life would be like for me and my peers. Its rather exciting to think bout settling down, and the entire load of (unwanted) responsibilities attached. Some of my peers have found their other halves, while some others still searching-with majority still frantically rummaging through the pile of leftovers. As for me, well oh well, come what may.

Some of my friends have started work proper while im at the crossroads of my future. I've been anticipating transitions yet somehow, i feel incapacitated. It is the disruption of routine that is holding me back. Others have made it through and i want to too. That means stepping out of my comfort zone and into the unknown.
There's a definate uncertainty bout how things are gonna work out but deep down, it HAS to work out with loads of help from the team. Sighs. Well oh well. Come what may.

Cant wait to jump into the new bed and wake with less aches! Hoooray!

Verbal Work Diarrhoea

My worst nightmare has came true-The day i vomit Lao Sai out all my displeasure at work. No fancy language, no regard for grammer and what fuck. I simply hope i spelt diarrhoea correctly.

I dread waking up to a work day.

I'm sick of what Kel term 'mini assistants', little fucktards who saunter around the clinic (like its their palace) wanting to (help) retrieve my instruments, open the autoclave, play with the other dental unit, press on my amalgamator, etc. They are usually ignored, after which their nonsense stop cause they feel they cant irritate me(actually they did but im trying reverse psych). Sometimes, they get a taste of a fiery me and remain still and silent (for awhile). Like all students who want to skip lessons, they pay me a visit asking for a quick check and insist i do a scaling. To them, there're no other students who need a dental visit and that they should be seen more than once a year.

I have zero tolerance for them who walk in and stand at the door, even after repeated calls for them to come over to the chairside. Cant these retards tell me what they want/need? On good days, they'll point (briefly) to their tooth and look at me with their huge puppy eyes like i know what the hell's going on, like i have x ray examination eyes, like i know if they want an extraction or need a filling. I've never once lost my cool with these patients because i understand their possible fear and anxiety. So how? Put down all im doing, put patient up for a rinse, deglove and walk over to them/plead with them to come over. I swallow all shit, really.

Sometimes, all it takes to make my day is someone saying "thank you". It lies in the upbringing of this generation and the culture at home. I dont want to have kids because these folks are (very) ugly on the inside. The gratitude from the grateful and polite minority cant outweigh effects caused by the irksome.

I dont give a shit bout audits. I think i've by far done everything to the best i know how-so im not gonna bother if the clinic's inventory is ideal. Audits are part and parcel in an organisation but i'd appreciate if earlier notice can be given. I've booked and sent out my appointments, now i've to reschedule them, explain and apologise. What the fuck, seriously. Aiyah, i just have to do as instructed lorrr. No point arguing cause nothing's gonna change-at all. Or maybe the superiors have their fair share of last minute notices. Whatever.

Even the school servants are haunting me. Somewhere this week, i set out extrememly early, got to clinic too early and decided to head out and purchase milk to go with my usual morning caffeine fix. Uncle then asked me to buy his breakfast, of which i politely declined cause I dont want to walk over to the coffeeshop thats 3mins from the convenience store and end up smelling like fried bee hoon. The came his "wah very far meh" in hokkien. Sorry, still not gonna!

Another kept complaining bout her collegue whom i havent even came across before. I try to maintain a distance because i hate saliva fountains. She's nice, overall, asking if i've had lunch when i go to the toilet at 12.30pm everyday. See, i cant even leave the clinic in peace for a decent pee until lunch hour.

Cause some fucks folks call up the general office and say "why is the line in the dental clinic engaged", "why doesnt anyone ever answer the phone". Please, i answer calls even if im packing amalgam.

These f____ walk in and indirectly demand for their kid to be seen immediately, not considering if there are other children who are waiting (in class) for treatment. I try my best to attend to their 'urgent' needs. But i highly appreciate if they could wait patiently at the canteen instead of peeking through the window. It gets rather scary, think a ghostly encounter. Out of desperation (and rebel), i draw shut the blinds. In any case, why cant their precious prince and princesses come down themselves during their scheduled school hours. Why need they come after their school hours and deprive the other session of treatment time? I dont comprehend. I wish there's an SOP drawn up for patients and their parents.

The guards too, asked for my schedule-a calender table that has details of my whereabouts and public holidays. It did save me much explanation the past 4 months but i've been busy treating walk-ins and other non clinical duties. I suppose it helps them in turning away walk ins who are accompanied by their parents on days im not available.

The last straw that broke the camel's back? An internal staff called (dont ask how it happened, i dont really know) and say there's a cavity (which i missed). Im gonna call the student down 1st thing in the morning tomorrow. I cannot accept the fact that i missed out a carious lesion. This is not acceptable, by personal standards. I dont care much bout the chapalangs but i take pride in what i've been trained to do. I dont want my successor to say "she doesnt know how to identify shawdows". Not that im god damn good at clinical work, patient management, etc.- im still learning and have alot to learn and experience.

The only good thing? I found a friend-Pe!P!ng. We have lunch together everyday and she'll go on and on bout how busy it gets in the office, how happening my life is, how shiok it is to have the clinic all to myself without a towkay-Hell no.

Thank god friday is here. Oh yes, though merely an amateur, i've placed an online order(crossing my fingers for perfect fit! Stores in Sg overprice it sky high!) for dance heels. The black and gold one you saw's for salsa, while Melina 6 is for tango. Like why rugby has rugby boots, soccer has boots with studs, different dance different heels different use! 2 concerns with patent material: inability to glide against each other-solution: apply vaseline. fine lines caused by flexing of the toes-solution:buy another pair. Haha.
Im so in love with both animal(leopard/cheetah) and black lace on gold cream satin base! SCREAMING EXOTIC AND SEXAYYYY!
But love and logic keeps me alive-1st pair better be something simple and easy to match. :)

May good lord bless mrs Lee K.Y., and bless the cabinet with wisdom to lead and propel my island.

Peter Drucker

Peter Drucker's Life as a Knowledge Worker

Peter Drucker is widely regarded as the man who invented management. But Drucker is more than a management guru. He had moved fluidly among his various roles as a journalist, professor, historian, economics commentator, and raconteur. Over his 95 prolific years, he had been a true Renaissance man, a teacher of religion, philosophy, political science, and Asian art, even a novelist.
Drucker passed away in 2005, age 95, eight days shy of his 96th birthday. In the following article which has since become a classic, he describes seven personal experiences that taught him how to grow, change, and age - without becoming a prisoner of the past.
I was not yet 18 when, having finished high school, I left my native Vienna and went to Hamburg as a trainee in a cotton-export firm. My father was not very happy. Ours had been a family of civil servants, professors, lawyers, and physicians. He therefore wanted me to be full-time university student, but I was tired of being a schoolboy and wanted to go to work. To appease my father, but without any serious intention, I enrolled at Hamburg University in the law faculty. In those remote days--the year was 1927--one did not have to attend classes to be a perfectly proper university student. All one had to do to obtain a university degree was to pay a small annual fee and show up for an exam at the end of four years.

The seven lessons that Peter Drucker learnt kept him hungry for new knowledge. He made learning a key priority in his life as a means of personal development.

Try and distill the key lessons from Peter Drucker and ask yourself how this event could be the catalyst to fuel your zest for learning. Try and see if the following questions that Peter asked himself are applicable to you.

What are the things that i need to concentrate on?
What are the things that i should improve on?
What are the things i need to learn?
What does perfection mean?
What do I need to do, now that I have a new/project/responsibility, to effective?

THE FIRST EXPERIENCE - Taught by Verdi
The work at the export firm was terribly boring, and I learned very little. Work began at 7:30 in the morning and was over at 4 in the afternoon on weekdays and at noon on Saturdays. So I had lots of free time. Once a week I went to the opera. On one of those evenings I went to hear an opera by the great 19th-century Italian composer, Giuseppe Verdi--the last opera he wrote, Falstaff. It has now become one of Verdi's most popular operas, but it was rarely performed then. Both singers and audiences thought it too difficult. I was totally overwhelmed by it. Although I had heard a great many operas, I had never heard anything like that. I have never forgotten the impression that evening made on me.
When I made a study, I found that this opera, with its gaiety, its zest for life, and its incredible vitality, was written by a man of 80! To me 80 was an incredible age. Then I read what Verdi himself had written when he was asked why, at that age, when he was already a famous man and considered one of the foremost opera composers of his century, he had taken on the hard work of writing one more opera, and an exceedingly demanding one. "All my life as a musician," he wrote, "I have striven for perfection. It has always eluded me. I surely had an obligation to make one more try."
I have never forgotten those words--they made an indelible impression on me. When he was 18, Verdi was already a seasoned musician. I had no idea what I would become, except that I knew by that time that I was unlikely to be a success exporting cotton textiles. But I resolved that whatever my life's work would be, Verdi's words would be my lodestar. I resolved that if I ever reached an advanced age, I would not give up but would keep on. In the meantime I would strive for perfection, even though, as I well knew, it would surely always elude me.

THE SECOND EXPERIENCE - Taught by Phidias
It was at about this same time, and also in Hamburg during my stay as a trainee, that I read a story that conveyed to me what perfection means. It is a story of the greatest sculptor of ancient Greece, Phidias. He was commissioned around 440 b.c. to make the statues that to this day stand on the roof of the Parthenon, in Athens. They are considered among the greatest sculptures of the Western tradition, but when Phidias submitted his bill, the city accountant of Athens refused to pay it. These statues," the accountant said, "stand on the roof of the temple, and on the highest hill in Athens. Nobody can see anything but their fronts. Yet you have charged us for sculpting them in the round--that is, for doing their back sides, which nobody can see."
"You are wrong," Phidias retorted. "The gods can see them." I read this, as I remember, shortly after I had listened to Falstaff, and it hit me hard. I have not always lived up to it. I have done many things that I hope the gods will not notice, but I have always known that one has to strive for perfection even if only the gods notice.

THE THIRD EXPERIENCE - Taught by Journalism
A few years later I moved to Frankfurt. I worked first as a trainee in a brokerage firm. Then, after the New York stock-market crash, in October 1929, when the brokerage firm went bankrupt, I was hired on my 20th birthday by Frankfurt's largest newspaper as a financial and foreign-affairs writer. I continued to be enrolled as a law student at the university because in those days one could easily transfer from one European university to any other. I still was not interested in the law, but I remembered the lessons of Verdi and of Phidias. A journalist has to write about many subjects, so I decided I had to know something about many subjects to be at least a competent journalist. The newspaper I worked for came out in the afternoon. We began work at 6 in the morning and finished by a quarter past 2 in the afternoon, when the last edition went to press. So I began to force myself to study afternoons and evenings: international relations and international law; the history of social and legal institutions; finance; and so on. Gradually, I developed a system.
I still adhere to it. Every three or four years I pick a new subject. It may be Japanese art; it may be economics. Three years of study are by no means enough to master a subject, but they are enough to understand it. So for more than 60 years I have kept on studying one subject at a time. That not only has given me
a substantial fund of knowledge. It has also forced me to be open to new disciplines and new approaches and new methods--for every one of the subjects I have studied makes different assumptions and employs a different methodology.

THE FOURTH EXPERIENCE - Taught by an Editor-in-Chief
The next experience to report in this story of keeping myself intellectually alive and growing is something that was taught by an editor-in-chief, one of Europe's leading newspapermen. The editorial staff at the newspaper consisted of very young people. At age 22 I became one of the three assistant managing editors.
The reason was not that I was particularly good. In fact, I never became a first-rate daily journalist. But in those years, around 1930, the people who should have held the kind of position I had--people age 35 or so--were not available in Europe. They had been killed in World War I. Even highly responsible positions had to be filled by young people like me. The editor-in-chief, then around 50, took infinite pains to train and discipline his young crew. He discussed with each of us every week the work we had done. Twice a year, right after New Year's and then again before summer vacations began in June, we
would spend a Saturday afternoon and all of Sunday discussing our
work over the preceding six months. The editor would always start
out with the things we had done well. Then he would proceed to
the things we had tried to do well. Next he reviewed the things where we had not tried hard enough. And finally, he would subject us to a scathing critique of the things we had done badly or had
failed to do. The last two hours of that session would then serve as
a projection of our work for the next six months: What were
the things on which we should concentrate? What were the things
we should improve? What were the things each of us needed to learn?
And a week later each of us was expected to submit to the editor-in-chief our new program of work and learning for the next 6months. I tremendously enjoyed the sessions, but I forgot them as soon as I left the paper. Almost 10 years later, after I had come to the United States, I remembered them. It was in the early 1940s, after I had become a senior professor, started my own consulting practice, and begun to publish major books. Since then I have set aside two weeks every summer in which to review my work during the preceding year, beginning with the things I did well but could or should have done better, down to the things I did poorly and the things I
should have done but did not do. I decide what my priorities should be
in my consulting work, in my writing, and in my teaching. I have never once truly lived up to the plan I make each August, but
it has forced me to
live up to Verdi's injunction to strive
for perfection, even though "it has always eluded me" and still does.

THE FIFTH EXPERIENCE - Taught by a Senior Partner
My next learning experience came a few years after my experience on the newspaper. From Frankfurt I moved to London in 1933, first working as a securities analyst in a large insurance company and then, a year later, moving to a small but fast-growing private bank as an economist and the executive secretary to the three senior partners. One, the founder, was a man in his seventies;
the two others were in their midthirties. At first I worked exclusively with the two younger men, but after I had been with the firm some three months or so, the founder called me into his office and said, "I didn't think much of you when you came here and still don't think much of you, but you are even more stupid than I thought you would be, and much more stupid than you have any right to be." Since the two younger partners had been praising me to the skies each day, I was dumbfounded.
And then the old gentlemen said, "I understand you did very
good securities analysis at the insurance company. But if we had
wanted you to do securities-analysis work, we would have left you
where you were. You are now the executive secretary to the partners,
yet you continue to do securities analysis. What should you be
doing now, to be effective in your new job?"
I was furious, but still
I realized that the old man was right. I totally changed my
behavior and my work.
Since then, when I have a new assignment, I ask myself the question, "What do I need to do, now that I have a new assignment, to be effective?" Every time, it is something different. Discovering what it is requires concentration on the things that are crucial to the new challenge, the new job, the new task.

THE SIXTH EXPERIENCE - Taught by the Jesuits and the Calvinists
Quite a few years later, around 1945, after I had moved from England to the United States in 1937, I picked for my three-year study subject early modern European history, especially the 15th and 16th centuries. I found that two European institutions had become dominant forces in Europe: the Jesuit Order in the
Catholic South and the Calvinist Church in the Protestant North. Both were founded independently in 1536. Both adopted the same learning discipline. Whenever a Jesuit priest or a Calvinist pastor does anything of significance--making a key decision, for instance--he is expected to write down what results he anticipates. Nine months later he traces back from the actual results to those anticipations.
That very soon shows him what he did well and what his strengths are. It also shows him what he has to learn and what habits he has to change. Finally, it shows him what he has no gift for and cannot do well.
I have followed that method for myself now for 50 years.

It brings out what one's strengths are--and that is the most important thing an individual can know about himself or herself.
It brings out areas where improvement is needed and suggests what kind of improvement is needed.
Finally, it brings out things an individual cannot do and therefore should not even try to do.
To know one's strengths, to know how to improve them, and to know what one cannot do--they are the keys to continuous learning.

THE SEVENTH EXPERIENCE - Taught by Schumpeter
At Christmas 1949, when I had just begun to teach management at New York University, my father, then 73years old, came to visit us from California. Right after New Year's, on January 3 1950, he and I went to visit an old friend of his, the famous economist Joseph Schumpeter. My father had already retired, but Schumpeter, then 66 and world famous, was still teaching
at Harvard and was very active as the president of the American Economic Association. In 1902 my father was a very young civil servant in the
Austrian Ministry of Finance, but he also did some teaching in economics
at the university. Thus he had come to know Schumpeter, who was then, at age 19, the most brilliant of the young students.
Two more-different people are hard to imagine:Schumpeter was flamboyant, arrogant, abrasive, and vain; my father was quiet, the soul of courtesy, and modest to the point of being self-effacing.
Still, the two became fast friends and remained fast friends.
By 1949 Schumpeter had become a very different person. In his last year of teaching at Harvard, he was at the peak of his fame. The two old men had a wonderful time together, reminiscing about the old days.
Suddenly, my father asked with a chuckle, "Joseph, do you still talk about what you want to be remembered for?" Schumpeter broke out in loud laughter. For Schumpeter was notorious for having said, when he was 30 or so and had published the first two of his great economics books, that what he
really wanted to be remembered for was having been "Europe's greatest lover of beautiful women and Europe's greatest horseman-and perhaps also the world's greatest economist." Schumpeter said, "Yes, this question is still important to me, but I now answer it differently. I want to be remembered as having been the teacher who converted half a dozen brilliant students into first-rate economists."
He must have seen an amazed look on my father's face, because he continued, "You know, Adolph, I have now reached the age where I know that being remembered for books and theories is not enough.
One does not make a difference unless it is a difference in the lives of people." One reason my father had gone to see Schumpeter was that it was known that the economist was very sick and would not live long. Schumpeter died five days after we visited him. I have never forgotten that conversation. I learned from it
three things:
First, one has to ask oneself what one wants to be remembered for.
Second, that should change. It should change
both with one's own maturity and with changes in the world.
Finally, one thing worth being remembered for is the difference one
makes in the lives of people.

I am telling this long story for a simple reason. All the people I know who have managed to remain effective during a long life have learned pretty much the same things I learned. Whenever I work with a person, I try to find out to what the individual attributes his or her success. I am invariably told stories that are remarkably like mine.

Much love,
Peter Drucker.

Random

Complaints inserted 11.05am, 14th May 2008.
Its the hump of the week and im running on empty. :(

I was supposed to go for a run with UnclePat at SIX in the morning cause he needs to send his wife to the MRTstation at 8.15am and meet a client after. It doesnt take a fortune teller to tell me I wouldnt make it. So i made extra efforts, by turning in early (1220am) and put 3 (handphone)alarms at 5mins interval to disrupt my Saturday-sleep-in-till-late-morning regime. To no avail.

7.13am, 1 message received, "Yo!! Funky, you 'funk' my aeroplane!!"
7.15am, 1 message received, "Hey Funky. Mi going home!! See you, buddy."

Thats my >50year old Uncle trying to be funny. Trying too hard.

Hahaha.

Went swimming at CSC@Tessensohn and chanced upon a poster. Membership has its privileges! Simply present the CSC membership card at the ticket box office. :)

Vibrant Blood 2008@Harbourfront NELine Station.
I think 99.9% of the population is trypanophobic! Despite having given local anaesthesia for the past 3 years, I was wincing even before the the assistant nurse administered the LA. Overall experience was manageable & enjoyable albeit the 2 second LA plunge and the nasty long and thick gauge 17(i think) hypodermic needle sticking into me.
Contary to popular belief of weight gain post donation, the only gain is satisfaction, knowing that i saved (up to) 3 lives. My last visit was in Oct 2006 and wonder what took me so long to do it again.
With recent rising death polls due to natural disasters, Im thankful for being alive and in Sg. Yet i do have suicidal thoughts at times. Hmm.

Anon posted an uber long comment on "Speeding Kills" and im not too bothered bout replying. I love my guests and i know its rude. But im too tired to fully comprehend and argue bout why is 'being a vegetable' a concern as long as im not exceeding the capacity of the car. My point during post time is, speed coupled with CONDITIONS. OKAY?! CASE CLOSED.

Poesies

I thought of my best friend while working and wrote her an impromptu message..
The night has passed..
Tracy's exams are over fast.
Party's a must
Lets eat pizza's crust!
And kinder days that have rust.

And wrote Carrie another.
..... Next outing, everyone is to wear the panties Leen bought from Hong Kong. We’ll head to Starbugs near Weeloks,

People watch till our panties get wet.
Talk till our lips get chapped.
Laugh till our uvula snap.
And binge on fatty snacks!

My verses pale in comparison to my best friend's _______ (i dont know what)

There once came a time and day,
When you blew my heart away.
Though none admits they first liked one another,
This love is without a question made for each other.
Then came a catastrophe,
As we both fell like fleas.
It must have been the darkest days of your life,
But do you know baby it had been mine too?
Now as fate brings us back together,
I yearn for you just like the deer yearns for the water.
And as I ran underneath the cloudless night,
I see no reason why I should give up this fight.
I hope there will come another time and day,
When you will once again blow my heart away.
It should always be ______ & ____cus,
Because in my life you always come first.
And I love you.

While waiting for these photos to be uploaded on bloggerdotcom, i had a crazy THOUGHT-To write a proper entry for the event! Whoever's writing a prose for internal circulation can jolly well cut and paste the entire post. ^.^ Uhhh huhh.

The yellow tag reminded me of the convenient and surprisingly efficient BaggageCheckIn-No doubt its best to travel light.

Joy, cousin's kid who doesnt have "I" and "Me" in dictionary. She goes around saying, 'Joy joy is a dentist'. We played fishing together and I think i had more fun than her.

Notions In Motion

Lying on the bed with a hyperactive cerebrum not wanting to retire for the week, I got up and logged this post. Few of my celebrations cerebrations.

First visit to a salsa club on Fri closed on a depressing note! Everyone was dancing so well while i was a total flop with 2 left feet! Coming to think of it, so what?! They whom asked for a dance asked for it :p Moreover, people look at the fancy dancers spinning and getting entwined and not me!

Does every woman need a man? Or does every man need a woman? Hmm.

Overdue bonding session with Fuglies on Sat night at Wisma's Starbugs! When 6 ladies come together, we do nothing but consult, advise, denigrate each other and take photos!

Viva la Tango!
Jose: Shall we?
2 left feet: I only had 2 lessons. Please go slow!

It was most exciting! The hold, the lead and his teach! Like how his name's pronounced, it really is Ho Sey! The phrase to sum it all is "deliberate steps".
Prior to practica, breakfast dinner with Tracy at PepperLunch was damn good-think salmon, chicken, beef, hamburger patty, lots of beansprouts, salad, matcha(green tea) ice cream. Of cause i opted for healthier options like doing without Thousand Island, having 1/5 of the entire cuppa soft ice cream and only scraped rice off the bowl's top layer. Oh we also had prata with chicken sausage and chocolate fudge-what Trayc termed 'exotic food'.

My collegue(s) always think I'm kept in the dark bout his/her/their antics. I just choose to keep mum. Cause it doesnt really concern me (anymore), nor does it affect the quality/quantity of my work. Point is, majority of the population love and appreciate it if you'd come clean with them and what you do. Dont make things ugly.
Without one having to say anything, words get around, i have no idea how. If you're reading this and feeling a sense of overwhelming guilt, its time for change. :)

"Change is the only constant in life"

Im getting way too sick and tired of advices that mean well.
To me, people who play different roles ought to have different ways of approaching situations. I dont need to hear strings upon strings of textbook knowledge. Why not look into the situation and ask if i did those things? Why not raise up your hands, you who asked if it was traumatic for me. Zero of them did.

I stopped work at FOUR pee am today, cause I'm really physically drained. It really isnt Monday blues. Usually, i'll still go on no matter how tired i am-partly cause its cumbersome to degown, go up and call the patients down. But not today. In me is very low morale and job satisfaction. Im talking to _N_ _ _ _ _ _ I now and it feels great to have someone share similar sentiments. I just cracked a joke. "What if we become like them (J____ and J_____) one day? My chances are higher than yours cause my name starts with J too! Jovelle." My MSN pillar of support said, "I call you Ruth, technically, you're an R to me"

I think my defense mode is on all the time and thats not a good thing. Cause i refuse to let seemingly big matters(to others) pull me down. If i were to go bersek one day, you know why. Years of dark kept secrets.

Speeding Kills

DD's friend of twenty something passed away the previous day and it got him thinking.. " .. try not to speed when driving and sparing a thought for the passengers.. Sigh "

Then i gave thought bout whats gonna happen should i be the one lying in the coffin. The costs of fatal road accidents are huge: loss of my precious life, grief and suffering for my family, relatives, friends, admirers and paramours lovers alike. Cost is incurred to my insurance company, damage is done to public property and society looses a passionate clinician (unemployment level decreases, actually).

I dont want to close my last chapter with "Car Accident".

Speed limits exist for a reason. Yet, collisions dont exist solely because the magic number printed on the white sign is exceeded, but is affected by other factors such as road conditions (dry/wet), traffic conditions, visibility (day, night, rain), driver's ability (fatique, age, emotion, concetration, drug/alcohol influence) and the mechanical condition (tyres, brakes, steering) of the car.

Cars are tested annually but drivers are tested only once for our road worthiness. That magical number, mechanical condition and some aspects of driver's ability can be controlled-so what's contributing to the rising number of accidents caused by speeding? I guess speeding, and in this case, racing, is a form of self expression of power in young adults. But consider the temporal pleasure against the impact in an accident, its nothing less than fatally shocking. Some justify speeding as unintentional or because other drivers are setting the pace, and i think that's absurd rubbish cause its your feet on the accelerator and your hand(s) on the wheels. If you're speeding cause you're in a hurry, lettme burst that bubble.

Assuming equal road conditions, distance-20km, and driving at
1) 80km/hr (speed limit on expressways), time taken = 15mins.
2) 120km/hr (speed for most drivers if traffic allows), time taken = 10mins
Yes, 5minutes might be a great deal if you're running late for a board meeting, meeting a client or getting locked out of class (Uh huhh fuglies..). But consider being a vegetable for life, being a liabilty to your loved ones. Speed kills freedom of movement, freedom of choice and respect for the law. Dont let m i n s tell you, "yes, you're an ass".

Dont learn life's lesson the cruel way. Strike errant driving behavious out today. Like how brushing your teeth the right way keeps costly dental treatments at bay, how an apple a day keeps the doctor away, 'Speeding kills' is a very simple message to follow.

And my last trump card for you: Speed kills you, me and our passengers.

So does drink driving. "If you drink, dont drive"

Random

Its Sunday and i dont think i've enough horse power to last me through this week.

I want a fun days out on Thurs Sat Sun! Alright. i think one of those day goes to tidying my wardrobe (again) and getting my documents in place.

Wed, 30th April 2008, 12.37am
I cant figure what went wrong, I'm a lil moody last evening (Tues), and bad thing is i carried it forward to Wed, essentially, since its past 12 now.

"Elementary, my dear Watson", said Sherlock Holmes to his faithful sidekick.

I guess its the upcoming schedule for month of May and June. I want to do too many things at a time.

You see, I want to go diving on 13th-15th June, and another trip on 20th-22nd June. Thing is, a.tango level 2's on every Friday, and knowing i'll miss 2 lessons and still go ahead with it is being pure blonde.
Then there's salsa beginners lvl 2 on Wed 8.30pm, commencing on 14th May, taught by an instructor i've never met. I like Gen but her next class is on Sunday at 1130am. Sundays are way out of scenario. There's an inertia effect in trying a new instructor.

YET. Everything's clear.
I'l go for dive and mission trip, a. tango lvl 2 can wait. And sign up for Salsa Beginner's Lvl 2 on Wed, cause i've no choice-unless i decide to put Salsa on hold for now. But not gonna, cause i dont wanna loose the momentum which i haven even gotten used to yet!

So what's weighing me down?

"Elementary, my dear Watson", said Sherlock Holmes to his faithful sidekick.

Weight issues? Hmmm.

My Best Friend

The tittle sounds like an English composition we wrote when we were in kindergarden huh.. Precise.

Kelly Chen Wei and i were school mates from Jing Shan kindergarden, wore the blue PAP uniform with a lightning like logo ironed on and walked proudly in plaited hair on some days and ponies on others. We were acquaintances in Peirce Secondary Sch, became friends in polytechinic and best buddies ever since.
Oh yes! We're still in blue uniforms! Taken when my best friend popped by HIPS for halal lunch and triple chocolate ice cream!

Getting lost in Rivervale and hitting Punggol aside, 100% of the residents residing in the area do not know where Rivervale ____ is! I was very glad i finally made my way there with detailed explanation from Pear. I tell you, she's a walking street directory, better than any GPS system one could ever find! :D We finally reached and the guards at her condo, albeit a little deaf, were very helpful in directing us to the function room! The catered Indo food was well worth loosing my way. If not for late calorie intake issues, i'd had gone for nth helping! It was so yummy, audacious me asked Ric to serve me a skewer of chicken and a potato patty(begedil-pronounced burger deal)! He did it so willing, i couldnt help but feel happy for Kel-she picked a gem! (While aku's heart is still ... well, trying to find Rivervale-you get the drift?) Kel's parents and aunt were so hospitable!

Here's my sermon to my lovely girl.

We meet people everyday,
But some are sent our way.

We met in kindergarden,
And danced Under the Sea during graduation.

We went to the same secondary school,
But didn’t play pool nor hear each other moo.

In tertiary, we’re the Mean Girlies,
And hence formed the Fuglies.

We helped each other out,
And together we’ll shout.

When I pout you know I'm mad,
You can tell when I'm sad.

You knew everything I felt,
And the problems I've been dealt.

During polytechnic,
She introduced me to Nick.
We got hooked
But soon we broke

You saw that I was sad,
But soon I was glad.
You showed me care,
And didn’t realize how much I needed you there.

You listened to my dreams,
And knew what it all means.

Days will get rough,
And steps will be tough.

I cant smooth life’s road,
But I promise to share your load.
I promise to wipe away your tears,
And help you face your fears.

I will go that extra mile,
Just to see your smile.

This bond we have no one can explain,
Cause they didn’t share the joy and pain.

Even when we’re apart,
I always feel you in my heart.

You are a priceless piece that cannot be sold,
Nor be bought with gold.

Of all the friends I've ever met,
You're the one I won't forget.

So hear me out when I say.
You're the light in my day,
The moon in my night,
You shine very bright.

I love the Kelly I’ve got,
She really mean alot!

The flipside of acid-free (who cares, fact is, its brings a $_$ to my face!) paper with a ribbon pasted right across.

No elaborate and fancy gifts from moi. In fact they are a great mismatch!
That's just how we’re made. That's just how we clicked!
I’ve an identical mirror, when i see it i see her. (mushy.and) (SCARY!!!) Actually, i should had gotten 1 for Carmoh-urm who’s the one who’s always asking for trouble a mirror?! Uhhh huhhh.
The wonder bra SHOULD give her some cleavage for a romantic coitus. (if any) Haha!
And a blue thong(picture unavailable) simply because 3 of my closest friends own em. Kel Carmen and Tracy. Two of which hasnt laid vaginas on them. I've got a black one!

I for one love ripping presents. Tied with a ribbon and sealed with a kiss.

I went and get a blue(her theme)blouse for i didnt want to be a spoil sport nor turn up in THE uniform. You know, guys and their strange fetishes. It's girly yet hoity toity. Fitting stretchy material with horizontal orange stripes and gold trimmings on a navy blue base made my chests look more well endorsed. Of cause with it squeezed out armpit fats. I've been ballooning but im actively doing something bout it-trust me.

I was advised to avoid caffeinated drinks prior to exercise due to its diuretic effect and that gave me mild withdrawal symptoms at work! I kept thinking and thinking bout the aroma of my morning fix-Intermix 30ml of CappaR0ma 50% less sugar coffee sachet with 200ml of HL milk. Marvelously perfect, i tell you.

Post run, we headed for dinner and chanced upon a stub from a magazine, saying caffeine increases endurance and speed!

Thursday, 24th April 2008
In the dental community, news spread like wild fire. When we hear of juicy news and hot gossips, some of us try and remove the tinted glasses we have towards the issue, some of us absorb everything and pass em on multi-fold. Tested and proven, our flesh victors over the angelic i-should-give-the-person-the-benefit-of-the-doubt and we subsequently form a bad impression of the person without knowing the complete truth.
Here's another analogy that might help you and i become a better person. :)
When people see dots, they tend to connect them with lines. Fact is, they are isolated cases but we folks see it as one. How then can we learn not to be judgmental and mind our own business? Beats me!

In my humble point of view, shit happens-to everyone. Shit happened to me-i admit. What matters is whether preventive measures has been done, how i reacted during the situation, good follow up of the case and reflect on what could had been done to further prevent such occurances from happening. I must say i did to my utmost best and am thankful for an understanding parent (for my school is well known for their er-hmm parents) and supervisors.

Bought my 1st pair of dance shoes in black and gold. Pretty thang!

Friday, 25th April 2008. Yayy!
Over and done with clinical audit! Yayy!!

Argentine tango level one week one was learning how to walk the tango.
Pointers from class today:
1) Body weight is placed on the ball of the foot, the axis is forward and the chest moves the body.
2) Walk forward and back ward in ONE line. Ankles brush against each other. Weebly wobly!
3) Maintain my frame-keep my arms tense. Takes great conscious effort!
4) And we did some.. 3 step 6 step thing i forgot what.

Areas for improvement: Maintain equilibrium instead of being jelly, avoid looking down so i'll look more elegant!

HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY TO MY LOVELY GURL KELLY CHEN WEI!
(Yayy!!! - for good measure) Prepare to rip open your present and let the healing power (cause age escalates!) of romantic coitus set you free in mind, body, and soul. As it is written, "caffeine increases endurance and speed".

Triple cheers to Friday!

Salsa

Crash course came and went in a brief 3 weeks! Here's what i've learnt.

Lesson 1-8th April 2008, 7.30pm - 9pm
1) Forward basic footwork
2) Cross body lead

3) Right turn

Lesson 2-15th April 2008, 7.30pm - 9pm
1) Sideway basic footwork
2) Backward basic footwork
3) Left turn

After men's left turn, hands are held in opposites. Taught the combing style. I cant describe it here nor manage to find any relevant videos. I cant try my best to put it into words cause i cant picture how it goes! Lettme try it out and i'll be back with descriptions. If you're lucky, you'll get a video! ;)

Lesson 3-22nd April 2008, 7.30pm - 9.30pm
1) Cuban open basic footwork
2) Straight cross body lead

Lesson 3 was most fun yet depressing as we danced to full songs.

I felt so incredibly inadequate.
I cant figure the beat.
So i followed his lead.

For a moment
I forgot bout life.
For a moment
I feel alive
All the wrong movements
Laughter and jive
Life's an irony
I cant disguise!

I strongly urge you to get down and do something you've always wanted to. Monetary issues aside, if not now, then when?
"We ask ourselves, 'Who am i to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be?"
Stop putting it off. Make a list of what you want to do/achieve, or even purchase. Dare to dream. Formulate a workable action plan. Get down to it. Now.

Nyoo

And that reads NEW!
I skip around as i think bout my life at this current point.

Henceforth, I commit to continuous learning and making improvements in every aspect of my life! Work wise, i want to gain (much needed) additional knowledge and skill to remain relevant in what Im doing.

Gave taking intra oral photographs a shot today. It sure was a good work out session! The dSLR was quite heavy for my non-dominant hand, and it isn't easy task angulating the mirror to capture wisdom teeth! By the time i got the camera focus right, the mirror was a tad off-either way, more practice please!

My friend who works as a mere dental assistant managed to convince a patient out of extraction (due to a cracked tooth syndrome), and i feel so happy for her! Here's the scenario..
Dentist: Explains case, lays out treatment options, leaves patient to decide with husband.
Patient: Waivered between decisions, decided to opt for extraction. Headed out for discussion with husband, returned equally lost. Turned to the d.assistant, and asked for her opinion.
Dental Assistant: Presented case in terms of short vs long term solution. Told nothing but truth to patient-shall not go into the details.
Patient: Opted for root canal treatment and subsequent crown.
Gist is-"Place responsibility into their hands." 'Make' your patients want treatment. It is easier to 'sell' a want than a need(Adam Khoo) Bad choice of words but please spare me, have had a long day.

Trial A.Tango class today wasn't exactly fun for i've cultivated bad habits even on trial class! Good thing is, i'm gonna sign up for Level1, and change the bad habits! Some jackass've gotta help me with it!
Wonder why i can maintain frame during salsa class but not today. Either im too tired to consciously do it, or i didnt realise (no one told me!) it during salsa.

I went for an ImpeccableService course awhile back, and saw a poster that wrote:
Dance as though no one is watching you.
Love as though you have never been hurt before.
Sing as though no one can hear you.
Live as though heaven is on earth.

Hmm.. Wanted to go for a dive trip on 23rd-25th May, but it clashes with dance class. Oh well. Maybe i can go in June. :) Lagi best! Since May has 2 public holidays for rest.

And i badly want to go for the weekend mission trip in June@Bintan! Shortlisted. :( CONFIRM me! I want to go on at least one mission trip every year!
Read the pun some nincompoop said, "I go Batam do missionary work"

Because I want something I've never had, I must do something I've never done.
Mystery to be revealed. Check this page! And keep waiting! (Refraining you from instant gratification-like i "have" it) ;)

"One thought away from change, one idea away from breakthrough"

Signing off,
My Best Life Now.

Surplus

After 3 months of regular exercise, it's disappointing to learn of weight gain when i stepped on the scale. On the contrary, friends and relatives have commented that i slimmed down!

Tell me its muscles.
Maybe i should resort to Hydroxycut. HOW NOW BROWN COW.

In any case, i've got abit more to loose since im in between sizes for almost every pair of trousers i tried. I must not give up! Dear god, you can push the phats up to my tea cup breasts-please?

Here's my 15yr old sister, who headed CIarke Quay on Friday night, while i was doing some reading at Novena Starbucks with my best(racy)ie!
It's been so long since she stayed over and im uber glad she did!

Upcoming week's a busy one.
Sun: Usual & trial dance class. I hope i wont be hands tied legs tied!
Mon: Work & dinner with LOL. Tee hee hee-Mummy always buy me dinner. ;)
Tues: Work, final memory class (1pm-4pm) & final salsa class (7.30pm-9.30pm). Lots of travelling-be heading from clinic to HPB, HPB to home and back to Outram.
Wed: Work & JPMorgan Corporate Chase. Reminder: Tell SuperMoma i need to leave earlier than 4.30pm since meeting's at 5pm, CityHaII!
Thur: Work & rest.
Fri: Work - clinical audit. TGIF!!
Sat: Kel's birthday bash@6pm. babesie, you are such a blue da ber dee da ber dai! Change the theme larrrrh. :( I'll feel bad for wearing other colours. Blue is a rental colour lehh.

Ahhh. The online journal allows me to vomit my Singlish thoughts-Good leh!

DTH AG 3

Kel's the main reason i reluctantly climbed out of bed on sleep-in Saturday. We're practical folks who knows that we're living rather frugally right now for a greater calling.

Unexpected down pour didnt dampen our spirits! We headed to the beach station's bus waiting area and started the interaction games.

2 ghosts men with broken hand syndrome. Game master wants a male from each team with full make up on! Insane.

Kudos to gamemasters who did a great job in engaging all of us!
This photo reminds me of the song
"Put your hands up in the air
Feel the vibe
And it's gettin' stronger
Feel the groove
And it's gettin' stronger
Club your hands
to make it under
Feel the vibe
by moving carry on
this is the song
that turns me on
Oh oh yeah "

With very enthusiastic team mates, all Kel and i needed to do were to keep their spirits high by cheering, kick in some fun by jeering and "trigger happy" her new camera in pretty pink!

Alright. And so we lost by a point. We had to dance and sing. Whose brilliant idea was it to perform London Bridge! On a side note.. 2004 cohort captured here are all walking on cork Birks in Madrid!

With the juniors. Excuse my tummy. Petered from the day's activities, i wasnt camera ready. Can someone always remind me to stomach in chest out during a photo shoot?

3 cohorts, 1 heart.

I say

My description cannot fit your thoughts
for I have a certain way of being in this talk.
Youth may archive me in history
but my life is nothing but victory.
I say
Its in the curls of my hair
The life in my eyes
The bow of my lips
The flash of my teeth.

Clothed in the finery of confidence
they write me letters of credence.
They wonder how I work all week
they thought I am meek.
I say
Its the passion in my stride
The picture at the site
The steadiness of my strokes
The calculus i broke.

I wander along the streets
And wonder who I'll meet.
You played me a song
And from then we belong
I say
Its in the rides of my breasts
The curves of my waist
The strut in my toes
The finesse in my soul

Pillars against angelic wall carvings
Painted in pastels.
Prancing on checkered floors
With air in my hands I saw
I say
Its the style of my swivels
The arch of my back
The promenade of my feet
The enjoyment of solitude

However I am perceived and deceived,
however my ignorance and conceits,
Centered on the world's stage
I'll be me till i age.
" Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me. "

DHL Balloon

Trayc's friend, KeIvin, joined us for dinner last night. A chance encounter with U.gin, Trayc's i-thought-was-cute looking friend and his gf made that evening extremely special! 3 of us were invited to join them for the DHL helium Balloon ride-Free!
Located at Tan Quee Lan Street, the world’s largest tethered helium balloon that was designed in France drifted us 150m(40 storeys) upwards to enjoy a breath-taking 360 degree panoramic view of the city. Despite chilly wind brushing our faces and messing our hair, we couldnt help but take photographs of the city in the gondola.

Dont ask me why the photos here (and lDEM 2008) is so pixelated. Beats me.

Adrenaline level: Zero.
Worth a try: if you picked a 20$ bill.
Romanticism level: 2/5 stars
Wear: a woolen cardigan.

Dad sent SleepingBeautyMe to the polyclinic and we had late lunch after. Taking secret glances, I realised how much he's aged. That aside, the similarity in the bow of our lips is akin to a photocopier. I guess the lush voluptuous pout comes from Mum. I feel incredibly kiss-worthy at press time. Muaaahahaha.

lDEM 2008

The biennial International Dental Exhibition and Meeting came and went. Fun fact: idem in English dictionary means "the same as previously mentioned"
True enough, the layout of the free dental screening's (my volunteered discipline) exactly the same as the previous!

It seemed recent this photograph was taken-dates back to April 2006, actually.

Kel and I, together with few other ex poly mates collegues were present during the afternoon session. Kel and i were assistants to 2 dental surgeons who did brief screenings. The 4 hours flew by with small talks and laughters in the screening area with Kel, Chee and Lee(sounds like chilli), peculiar and nice patients and very hospitable organisers-Dr V. Lee & Sim W.K.

They made the free dental screening and counseling possible!

The 4 of us from clinical side on far left.

On hindsight, I cant emphasize enough the importance of saying an appreciative thank you. You never know how much of a difference it makes to the lowest life form or the high and mighties.

Thats bout it for a Sat! :) Heading to bed for a much needed nap-havent been getting enough quality and quantity sleep. Ciao!

I Love You

Last Friday, strange incidents happened at 3.20pm while i was on my way to the bus stop. Super Moma granted me time off to retrieve my already-submitted MC. Chucked the following 2 bizarre stories at the back of my mind till yesterday's long lazy lunch with Ping Cady & Leen. They thought it blog-worthy and here it is!

1) E, from the subnormal stream was annoying hanging around the clinic that afternoon. In out in out. Then came a "姐姐, you're very pretty". I passed off the remark with a harsh "dont tell me things i already know". That dejected poor puppy went out of the clinic. *Phew, i must say.
Little did i know, that wasnt the end.
As if waiting at the sch's enterance (for me), he followed behind. Although not the first time being stalked, it sure felt awkard. At the bus stop, he grabbed me by the hand. I pulled away swiftly. With much determination to bid me good bye, he seized me by the elbow with his left hand and my wrist with his right, left hand clasped my small hands and said, "姐姐, 姐姐, bye bye." I politely returned the farewell.
Thank-which-ever-god, the bus arrived. I boarded and told him to head home. We exchanged eye contact through the bus' glass panel and i saw him lip a "i love you". How aberrant. Too bad, im not keen on a 姐弟恋plus i prefer kite relationships. ;)

Alright alright. I think he might have said a "colourful".

2) Last Thurs, there was a heavy down pour the night before.

Remember hailstones raining down in Bishan, Toa Payoh and Ang Mo Kio? Hailstones form in intense thunderstorm clouds. Such clouds develop when there is strong convection, which occur all year round in the tropics. Generally, the hailstones would have been melted before they reach the ground. However, in the presence of a strong downdraft in an intense thunderstorm, the hailstones can be brought to the ground rapidly without melting.

The rain must have caused a branch to detach from the old tree. Insanity must have caused a student from my school to pick up the huge branch from the drain. Is it Christmas anytime soon?

3) Men, ever wondered why women take so long in the washroom? Now you know, fault doesnt lie on the mirror, entirely.
