Speed limits exist for a reason. Yet, collisions dont exist solely because the magic number printed on the white sign is exceeded, but is affected by other factors such as road conditions (dry/wet), traffic conditions, visibility (day, night, rain), driver's ability (fatique, age, emotion, concetration, drug/alcohol influence) and the mechanical condition (tyres, brakes, steering) of the car.
Cars are tested annually but drivers are tested only once for our road worthiness. That magical number, mechanical condition and some aspects of driver's ability can be controlled-so what's contributing to the rising number of accidents caused by speeding? I guess speeding, and in this case, racing, is a form of self expression of power in young adults. But consider the temporal pleasure against the impact in an accident, its nothing less than fatally shocking. Some justify speeding as unintentional or because other drivers are setting the pace, and i think that's absurd rubbish cause its your feet on the accelerator and your hand(s) on the wheels. If you're speeding cause you're in a hurry, lettme burst that bubble.
Assuming equal road conditions, distance-20km, and driving at
1) 80km/hr (speed limit on expressways), time taken = 15mins.
2) 120km/hr (speed for most drivers if traffic allows), time taken = 10mins
Yes, 5minutes might be a great deal if you're running late for a board meeting, meeting a client or getting locked out of class (Uh huhh fuglies..). But consider being a vegetable for life, being a liabilty to your loved ones. Speed kills freedom of movement, freedom of choice and respect for the law. Dont let m i n s tell you, "yes, you're an ass".
Dont learn life's lesson the cruel way. Strike errant driving behavious out today. Like how brushing your teeth the right way keeps costly dental treatments at bay, how an apple a day keeps the doctor away, 'Speeding kills' is a very simple message to follow.
And my last trump card for you: Speed kills you, me and our passengers.
So does drink driving. "If you drink, dont drive"

There’s actually zero evidence that speed itself is the cause of most accidents… and ’speeding’ is not a legitimate construct, because it means going faster than a number that is arbitrarily set. It’s generally other factors that cause the accidents, which when combined with high speeds end up deadly. These factors are inattention, dangerous maneuvers, tailgating, and drunkenness. The government in the mean time will keep making up lies to justify the ticketing of motorists.
Speeding isn’t ‘cool’, it’s just trying to get to your destination on time. I agree that street racing is generally quite stupid, but what needs to be the issue is making RECKLESS DRIVING socially unacceptable, not speeding responsibly.
I've done 88 in a 55 mph zone, straight road, few people around, most doing 15 over already. I didn't endanger anyone. I could have been doing 98, even 118, and probably still would not have, but I didn’t want to go any faster because the road wasn’t completely smooth. Yet if I were to do the speed limit in heavy rain, I'd be crazy. This whole 'speeding' thing makes people pay too much attention to dumb numbers instead of common sense. Instead of 'checking their speed' when there's a cop around, people should be paying more attention. The whole 'speed kills' campaign probably kills more people than it saves.
And actually, driving 120 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone is like doing 75 in a 50, not dangerous in many circumstances, if you're going to save time and are driving properly, why is 'being a vegetable' a concern as long as you're not exceeding the capacity of the car?
