i try: to religiously start using sunblock and moisturizer on my face.
i know: i can be more stubborn than a bull.
i want: to be healthy. Health is wealth. I hate getting episodes of asthma and rhinitis.
i wish: my prince charming picks me up in a pumpkin. (Although what is essential is invisible to the eye, check out my wish list too!)
i hate: reckless drivers-they put others at risk. cockroaches-they should extinct together with dinosaurs and let the bobos stay!
i miss: the good o' days with cws. I do love my past. But I love my present. Im not ashamed of what I've had, and I'm not sad because I have it no longer.
i hear: (Love 97.2FM at work -.-) DongFangBilly telling me to eat like a king for breakfast. Ignoring the part bout eating lesser during lunch and a wee bit for dinner,
i fear: being tubby (Think Thinkywinky, Dipsy, Lala & Po.) Gross.
i search: for my name in God's Book Of Life. (Ha!)
i believe: my society is all bout paperchase, politeness is half good manners half good lying and a kiss is a lovely trick designed to stop speech when words become superfluous.
i wonder: what will become of me 10 years from now.
i regret: wanting an easier path by going for polytechnic education.
i love: laughing myself silly.
i care: for my lil sis and alot for my patients, seriously.
i always: touch dental instruments with soiled gloves.(Haha, gotcha!)
i cry: and nobody sees me fallen.
i fight: with my elder brother when we were young. Over plastic blocks called Lego.
i write: using Mitsubishi's waterproof ink pen. Maroon Blueblack & Orange are my favourites!
i win: and my keys are ignorance and confidence. "Just chiong larh"
i lose: (what kinda question?!) because i gave way to the champion.
i confuse: chinese characters 7 & 9 in a game of mah jong.
i listen: and meticulously analyze your spoken thoughts, articulation of words and try hard keeping awake. HAHA.
i breathe: freely again if the market picks up. to tell others bout being a civil servant because language is invented to satisfy my deep need to complain.
i should: learn to cut some slack at work. People forget how fast you did a job, but they remember how well you did it. (To hell with my angelic twin, whatever she said that line for!?)
i dream: of going to underdeveloped countries to be on the giving end. Lettme hon my skills with these imps before doing so.
i feel: like a phone-love to be held and talked to. But if YOU press the wrong button, you'll be disconnected.
i am not: a dental NURSE. Neighbourhood aunties who thinks ultra copper hair and budda perms are the IN thing, take the word M-I-S-S-Y out of your dictionary.
I rest my case.

Oosh
Venue: Oosh Pte Ltd
Address: 22 Dempsey Road (S) 249679
Tel: 64750002
Website: http://oosh.com.sg/index.html
Opening hours: Lunch – 12.30pm – 2.30pm
Evenings 6pm - 1am (weekdays – sun to thur)
Evenings 6pm - 2am (weekends – fri to sat)
Tanglin Village was lush, leafy haven which used to house an army camp. After a major makeover, it is now home Singapore's largest alfresco bar, Oosh. Adorned with wood, ferns and waterfalls, the common area(The Garden) serves Western cuisines. Housed in the common area is also a wine and cigar bar, and a Japanese restaurant sits on the second floor.
Contary to the reviews of others, service was prompt and acceptable. We pulled over at the porch and was greeted by valet($5) assistants and directed to the main counter. I didnt figure a pretty runner to be in her black lil dress-wear a name tag or a corporate shirt please! Our reservation which was originally made at 9.30pm wasn't updated. That aside, when seated, the menus were brought and the waiters dropped by more often than expected. After taking our orders, utensils that would not be of use were cleared. And till now, I've not figured if the management's sexist. I was served a shorter glass of water as compared to N.
Soup of the day: Tomato Soup. Rich and smooth. A tad too salty.
Our palates were treated to a divine combination of
Roasted Lamb Rack($33) Perfected medium rare. Served with thin slices of stacked potato and maple soy glaze. Mutton-Soft, tender, lacks pungent smell. (Major Chan: Mutton is an acquired taste. << NOT TRUE. Does not apply to carnivores.) Potato-Interestingly sweet.
Grilled Beef Tenderloin($33) Prefected medium rare with herb mashed potato and mushroom gratin. Beef-juicy. "Hermalgamated" mash-flavourful. Mushroom gratin-a lil too creamy and overpowering.
Disappointment of the day: Apple tart and choice of Hagen's ice cream($13). Laced with slices of kiwi, strawberries and blueberries. Tart-Disgustingly thick. Baked apple-Alright, larh. 'Crumble'-didnt crumble. Rock hard. The only consolation was Hagen's Macademia Nut Ice Cream.
Midway through dinner, live bossanova tunes were sang at The Lookout. I was immersed in bliss that balmy night. It was a unique experience and would definately be back again.
Total damage(inclusive of service charge and GST): SGD 86.

Prom@Singapore Recreational Club
Because im often distrait by MSN and online journal of others during work hours, here's an update for my beloved (and faithful) readers.
14th July 2007
Prom@SRC came and went. Thanks to the organising committee(myself inclusive) for their meticulous planning. The fireworks made that evening exceptionally spectacular.
Like how all galas end with cam whoring, so did that special evening. :)
CWK and i, together with R, N and J headed down to MOS for our (CWK and I) virgin clubbing experience. We had TeqPops and VodLime. I prefer the latter with its fresh limy tang and subtle taste of alcohol. Teq was a lil over powering. However, my go at popping it and see it sizzle was a sure success! One word I'd use to sum clubbing:burlesque-an artistic composition (for the sake of those who love clubbing) that, for the sake of laughter(and hormones), treats ordinary material(woman) with mock dignity(grinding). I was 'grounded'. I feel her palm slap my butt cheeks. I was violated. By CWK. Her hands were all over my teenie tiny breasts and full ass. It's gotta be the booze getting to her.
My pilgarlic and i along ClarkeQuay.
And im not proud to say i headed to Clarke Quay on a Sat night.

Updates
2nd July-Both feet into adult hood.
5th July-Official Graduation from diploma in dentalhygieneandtherapy.
Celebrated Jon's 20th birthday at Hogs Breath, followed by bowling at Orchid Country Club. That night was the sweetest.
I thought, before drifting into sweet sleep, what more can i ask for? Im enjoying work (despite my ill-liking for children 'so whats the point of carrying on?'), going on strong, not lacking suitors(ok that aside), etc.
And my life took a down turn.
Frequent cavils with N is ridding me of beauty sleep, upsetting my time table, affecting my mood and hence my work attitude.
Thats all i can afford to type during lunch. There're other better things to do on the Internet.

AEON Tebrau City Shopping Centre(Jusco)
When all your friends(so-called) are not too keen on a 3D2N getaway, the next best thing is to visit Singapore's fellow neighbour, Malaysia, before starting work on 2nd July. The trip was almost called off! However, we(J A and I) remained obstinate despite monetary issues.
We boarded bus service number 170 at Little India Station (a convenient 5mins train ride from my place!). A good 59mins ride (coupled with yawns and occasional roister) would take you to Woodlands Checkpoint. Tap EZ Link before alighting to go through Customs. Take an escalator down, resume trip by tapping card again. A washroom is located 2 meters from the bus pick up point. You'll pass Msia's customs before reaching Larkin Terminal.Cost: $1.48 via EZ Link.
While asking for directions at the terminal, J filmed the conversation and i told her to catch it on Channal 5 that night. We couldnt help but giggle at her ecstatic expression. (Hey lady, PUNKED!) Paid RM2.90 for a 30mins ride on service no. 277. It travelled back to somewhere near the causeway before heading for the expressway towards Jusco. Start looking out for the massive beige-brown building after passing Carrefour. Alight and cross the road by jumping over the barricade just like the locals do.
Ok lunch is over. to be continued.

Shrek 3
I must admit I've been missing out on Animations, what i previously termed Cartoons. Enlightened by Sexy J. A revelation that took a good 20years.
The Good
Good laughter entertainment if you've got a good syringe of intellect.
Shrek 3 offers fairy tale characters a differentiated personality. Ok maybe this should be placed under "The Bad" cause characters like Snow White and Rapunzel were portrayed in a negative light-demanding, unreasonable, impatient and manipulative characters, totally different from the virtuous, pure, sacrificial and long-suffering characters that kids(maybe only those from GenX, moi inclusive) know them to be in the original fairy tales.
The 1hr 33mins movie tickles my toes with funny lines like:
Artie: Help! I'm being kidnapped by a monster who's trying to relate to me!
Snow White: Rapunzel, Rapunzel. Let down your golden hair extensions.
Oh my gawd. Have i mentioned how disgustingly innocent and adorable he looked after being shut out?
Puss in Boots: Some people just don't understand boundaries.
A less irritating line at last..
Donkey: [sees Shrek naked] Aahh! You know, you really need to get yourself a pair of jammies!
This is somewhat like "You're pretty." "Pretty ugly"
Ship Captain: [menacingly] You're finished.
[Shrek, Puss in Boots, and Donkey turn and stare]
Ship Captain: [apologetically] Heh. With your journey!
[points to land]
Gingy pooping a pink candy!
And here's Pinocchio trying too hard.. A good try, none the less.
Prince Charming: You! You can't lie! Where is Shrek?
Pinocchio: Well, uh, I don't know where he's not.
Prince Charming: You don't know where Shrek is?
Pinocchio: On the contrary.
Prince Charming: So you do know where he is!
Pinocchio: I'm possibly more or less not definitely rejecting the idea that I undeniably...
Prince Charming: Stop It!
Pinocchio: Do or do not know where he shouldn't probably be. If that indeed wasn't where he isn't!
When Shrek dreamt how disaterous it'd be to have lil imps, it clearly portrays the heaven turn hell after having kids.
The Bad
When Arthur feigned extreme sadness to fool the old and pitiful magician, he succeeded in getting his way, and was not apologetic to have used emotional manipulation. Message sent to kids: all right to manipulate others for personal benefit.
Visual images of beheadings when Prince Charming starts cutting of heads of annimals and mannequins on stage although it purely is "Drama Production". As much as I love grrrruesome gory scenes(N knows best)Im an advocate against violence.
Recent knowledge of science and genetics not applied. Think: Princess Fiona an ogre, her father (King Harold) a frog, her long lost cousin (Artie) human being. The only logical deduction: Ogre Fiona is heterozygous, having both characteristics of frog and man.
And here's how Shrek Junior and Fiona Junior look ogre: Assuming Fiona having the allele combination Pp, Shrek PP, crossing results in PP, PP, Pp, Pp. This is the result of 2 years of pure Biology lessons.
The movie has a 'good triumph evil' ending. It however, will not leave wholesome impressions on kids.

Nuptial Day
Sat-Wedding ceremony of Weiliang & Jas.
Being the entourage(jie mei) for Jas meant getting up at 5.10am, arriving at her place punctually at 6am. Being myself meant snoozing the alarm, sleeping in, waking up late (5.30am) and arriving at 6.30am, complaining bout the cab fare to Woodlands and regret bout not renting a car for the day. Suddenly, the fear of being left out struck me. I went alone, not alone per se, but didnt know the other 'jie meis'. It was comforting to know that there were 2 other 'loners'(J and P) and another pair of bubbly girls. P was the earliest at 6.20am, J, of MALE gender, arrived at 7.10am despite living in Woodlands, the pair arrived at 7.20am, all groomed and ready for the camera! It took me awhile to warm up before my ugly side(inelegant, indelicate) started peeling. For the video crew, i cheekily held the house keys, smirked and threw the keys behind me.
All ready in my casual white linen dress with my perm-look-alike hair pinned to the side! Add a complimentary wrist corsage for good measure. We failed horribly in an attempt to get Jack don a corsage.
Time check: 7.45am >>Horns of the decorated E200 Mercedes wedding car!! Ah po was so excited she reached for the bunched of keys. We had a hard time explaining what we were gonna do! We(jie meis) flustered as we werent prepared for "the bargaining game"! (The groom(with the help of his 'xiong di' has to pass a couple of tests before receiving the bride)
1) To inconsiderately sing a song from ground level so loud it'd wake the neighbours on a Sat morning. We failed them on account it wasnt peppy. The brothers started swaying to the rythm unreservedly. The photographer and videographer had such a good laugh that they urged us to pass them.
2) An ang bao that satisfys! "Although we are not hard selling our friend here. You know better what to do" The boys were agreeable and able to gather the various amounts in various denominations! *Applause!
3) To taste 4 different flavours, namely, suan tian ku la (sour, sweet, bitter, spicy respectively.) Thought by J, it signifys the feelings of a relationship.
Sour: White vinegar. We had a hysterical laugh at their expressions.
Sweet: Honey drink. Groom:This's nice. Us: Yeah, soothing for all that singing.
Bitter: Ice blended bitter gourd. Think bout rubbery faces and disgusted grimaces.
Spicy: Chilli padi spread on bread. We saw huge pieces of it on ground level when we were leaving for another place! How audacious!
4) To form on paper, "Will you marry me" using crimson red lip-sticked lips.
At this point, WL realised he left the wedding bands at home! Surprisingly, he didnt think of going back for it! In the end, a xiong di made the trip down.
More roistering before proceeding to the next test.
5) To answer questions. Forfeit: Apply whipped cream to certain part of brother's body, groom to suggestively lick it off.
a) Wife's measurements in format: Bust_ _, Waist_ _
WL: Waist 27
Us: HOR HOR!!! You're saying she's very fat when she's only 24!
WL: 32
Us: BIGGER LA!
WL: 33
Us: She isnt that flat la! Take your pick!
WL ended up drawing the NOSE.
XiongDi: Although I cant imagine having my nose licked or kissed, U're lucky I washed my face this morning.
It took WL much hesitation and courage to lick it off!
b) Favourite singer? This's a giveaway question for encouragement, larh.
c) i) Secondary school? *Bingo ii) Name of sec3 English teacher?
WL: *White flag raised.* I surrender. The cream is nice, anyway.
This time, it was a more subtle area-the elbow.
Up next, sixth game.
To find Cinderella's missing heel! They were so fast (it was in the microwave), we insisted it was Pui pui(Jas' fat female shitztzu called ger-ger) who fished it out.
The whooopees died off and Jas got suspicious. We had to lie that ah-po gave us an auspicious hour.
The day continued with tea cermonies, outdoor phototaking and lunch reception.
Their driver, a wellgroomed spikey hair kan-tang man drove like there was no tomorrow. On a main road, he sped 90km/h, weaved in and out of traffic as if we were running late.
Tea ceremony >> Pinggg Piannng! A vase and a cup shattered and everyone went Luo Di Kai Hua! to cancel out bad omen. Yes thats how superstitious the previous generation is.
Outdoor Phototaking >> Ants attack!
Once thought to be harmless and hardworking six legged insects, they invaded the gown's train, one went up through the can-can and kissed the bride's back! The bridesmaid, moi, got bitten on my forearm and calfs. Ouch!
The weather was favourable albeit a lil drizzle after the morning ceremonies; Breezy with a lil sun peeking through clear blue clouds for good measure.
Headed to Yishun for much needed 60min nap before preparing for the night. Aunty(cws' mum) still pampers me silly. She took care of my welfare and looked into every detail. She boiled me hot water for bath, set up the hair dryer, changed the sheets, wanted to get me milk and iron my clothes, etc. Uncle, oblivious of our break up, remarked with a wide smile-"You'll be the 3rd to call me Father." I politely smiled.
Venue: Bukit Batok Civil Service Club. Crystal Ballroom, Level 4.
The stage isnt the usual curtain backdrop but had alternating 'frames' of lights. It gave a catwalk feel. 'Trees' along the aisle had crystals and candles hanging on the branches which gave the atmosphere a romantic boost. The VIP chairs were fashionably laced. Oriental silk-like fabric napkins fanned proudly on the well arranged table ware. Oh i forgot to mention the advantage of 4 projector screens-guests need not turn heads while feasting! The technician was a young noob. The manager cum coordinator - a really attentive and courteous chap!
Donned in my alizarin red dressy shoulders baring top, shorts (as usual) and towering high wedges, I was confident of dolling myself up but Jas thought it'd good to hand the task to the decade experienced make up artist, Irene. It wasnt 70SGD well spent! She used my M.A.C. StudioFix as i refused her liquid foundation! I dont want to appear on stage with an inch of cakey make up! She applied liquid eye liner, mascara and ever-so-roughly sweeped pink shimmery eye colour on to my lids! It was followed by pink lippy and a dash of blusher. Easy peasy for 70$! As for my already moussed naturally curly tresses, Irene straightened and back-combed my fringe, pinned up the crown and generously set it with hairspray. Ok, so where's the make up base (Eg:moisturizer. thankfully i applied it on the way there), more intricate eye make up, a delicate touch and the oh-so-needed smiles! Ah at least now i know how i'd look with liquid eyeliner-gorgeous.
There was tension with cws, my partner emcee (ex bf, just so you know and for paparazzi sake), during his last minute briefing bout changes in schedule. That aside.
Ahh how i love birks. I wouldnt go through a day without them! It was so tiring trotting in wedges the entire morning that i resorted to slipping on to my new dark blue madrids off stage!
Night event: Photo montage, march in, cake cutting, short clip of the morning's events, a surprise from WL to Jas during the 2nd march in, champagne pouring, thankyou speech and toasting!
Photo montage showed individual shots of their childhood. It is a good illustration of how caterpillars morph into butterflies. Cws cracked in the presense of 400 guests "Thats my ah beng sibling". Giggles filled the place while WL raised his brows in surprise and flushed.
March in. In a pre-ceremonial announcement, the guests were educated bout the use of rose petals on their tables. The outcome was amazingly beautiful when everyone threw out handfuls of petals as they march in.
Cake cutting >> 98.8% (Calculations based on the attention of 3 VIP tables) were chompinging away. For camera's sake, cws had to buy time and went "ahhh so romantic (in chinese)".
Video >> The crew did a very good summary! It was so farcical i almost lost my balance laughing! Yet, there was a huge dose of ramantic-cism that brought back memories of the good o days. The crew deserve a more than a pat on their backs and an applause for putting together dumb antics and facial expressions combined with background music.
2nd march in >> WL sang "Ni Shi Wo Zui Shen Ai De Nu Ren" as he promenaded down the aisle to receive his wife from the other end of the room. It was accompanied with the strums of a Takamini played by cws. A super impromtu (6.40pm when i suggested to WL in the car) surprise executed splendidly!
Champagne pouring >> Pop!
Thankyou speech >> Sent 1 of WL's aunt tearing. Aunty: Why didnt Jas say anything? Me: Oh she's just there as an accessory, an embellishment.
Toasting >> After the usual 3 Yarrrrrmm Sengs, Jas's uncle gave the 4th, alone. Taken aback, CWS: Wow. That was a good performance and surprise!
We coordinated well that night and many commented on our sense of professionalism amalgamated with quip. However witty you think i am, i loose hands-down to cws!
Although i had to work on Sunday, cws, wx(his sister) and t(sister's bf) went for Part 2 at IndoChine. I directed cws as he drove. Thanks to dad's constant castigation, I became his live road map. We had a good overdue bonding session before heading home at 2.15am.
Have you ever caught yourself in a situation which you know that whatever's ahead is tough, yet, you willingly, and knowingly, plant yourself in that situation? Thats marriage and in subgroup of the marriage category:having kids. Secondly, my damnit sponsorship with HPB. I've not had enough slack, yet im back at no-pay attachments. I've not had enough slack yet my release to the real world is counting.

A valedictory dinner was held at BanLeongSeafoodRestaurent last night, for the Chan brothers who are enlisting today. Apart from yummy food, sweet C and N boy, beefy D was the 4th reason i was there. :D imsoforcedtosaythis: Hunky J: the 5th.
I was duped by CWK when she called the clinic, impersonated SM (IDontKnowWhatTheHeckItStandsFor) W.J., cooked up a scenario (Eg:The teachers saw two of you walking around the school), interrogated me,.. Her bombing session forced 'democratically' correct answers outta me. Alright, i was taken in. How silly.

Stirred
Because these times are contagious. And i am flawed. With the hours passing by, you long to find your sanity. Is there a cure among us, in this multifarious society. Ameliorate my pain, tell me, tell me this episode is nothing more than a canard.

Bananas
A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas. He said the expression "going bananas" is from the effects of bananas on the brain.
Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.
But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It also helps overcome or prevent illnesses and conditions.
Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.
PMS: The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.
Anemia: High in iron, bananas stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.
Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.
Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.
Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the
diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem
without resorting to laxatives.
Hangovers: One of the quickest ways to cure a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and rehydrates your system.
Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.
Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.
Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream (We call it Mopiko locally.), try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.
Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.
Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.
Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional
temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.
Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.
Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.
Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!
Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on
the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!
When compared to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"
Last one! Want a quick shine on your shoes?? Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on
the shoe, polish with a dry cloth and wala!
Now we know why monkeys go gaga over bananas.

Sweet Absence
When good company's away in Bangkok, when lil sis is away in China, I realise that loneliness makes the loudest noise.
Welcome anxious longings and sense of vacancies, adieu to late nights and sleeping with you.
When stars illume the skies, pangs of desire drag me through these miss you nights.
These miss you nights are the longest, but each break of dawn is a day closer to the next time I see you.
A lonely me, a lonely you, a cloud in my heart, a haze in your mind.
Till we savour the delight of presence, my amorous heart shall pant for you.

I am tired, Beloved,
of chafing my heart against
the want of you;
of squeezing it into little inkdrops,
And posting it.
~Amy Lowell, "The Letter"

Frodo

In Loving Memory Of Frodo, Nic's Whiskered Angel.
Dont let your heart hold tears, for you walked together for awhile.
I'm not quite fond of kitties but i adored you.
You had the magic of letting me see you like a baby in a fur coat, but still showed your kitty pride.
I'll miss your intent gazes and pounces.
I'll remember you as a playfully malicious furbaby in a wicked tail.
On a happier note,
arrived today!

Jackanapes
Double happiness! My peevish patient who was flak-ing bout the appointment system at NDC eventually softened up. I admit i was dying to unzip the nasty side of me. But than again, politeness is half good manners, half lying. I took off my mask after the visit and cursed for 30seconds. The other side of me wished i could follow up on him. Anyways...
Make up session at NDC's super jollity! Amigo Y instigated me to taste forbidden fruit-to walk out of the building in scrubs to 7-11 at HPB.

Ok there we are, sipping on iced latte with adrenaline still pumping in my veins!! :D
Random.
Lil sis and i.
Isnt she lovely?

TohuVaBohu
Topsy turvy Sunday!
Episode 1: I brought my ATM and driver's lic(for identification purposes) but not my EZ Link. 2: Faulty ticketing machine shortchanged me of $1!
I must admit the following rancorous emotions arised from past work experience. Coupled with the fact that i had only 2 slices of KayaToast and 1/2 cuppa iced Milo. Am totally embittered by hours of labour!
1) Sometimes.. I cant see where the salivary ejector is no matter how far forward i bend. Hello? I tried. And tried my best. Still, i got a good lil tongue lash.
2) Trying to anticipate what you want all these weeks. But i asked for instructions in an unfamilar procedure. How i'd know #18 #28 is usually(80%) extracted only with a WarwickJames?! The previous person i worked with used tons of elevators and a forcep!
All that yada yada bout non-verbal communication. Whats the cue sent when you shook your head?
3) And a 4yr old kid presented at the clinic. That lil imp was SO troublesome.
4) May 13th. Sunday. Mother's Day. Hello again? Last patient: scheduled at 4pm. And i totally understand how time is treated like rubber, hence anticipated work to end at 6pm. Ended a good 1 hour later than anticipated time, 2 hours later than off work time.
5) I'd choose assisting over frontdesk counter and pantry duties. Yet somehow, it irked me to realise that while im twisting and turning assisting, exposing my LASIKed orcs to aerosol, blah blah, my fellow collegue's sitted comfortably doing simple duties, washing instruments, etc. The usual me would pass it off as other clinical duties, fair share of workload, etc. Its just today..
Nope. No PMS.
Having understood my umfamilarity with instruments and materials, boss gave me a good 'debrief'.. And i simmered down a lil.
Having being stirred by the entire series of events at work, the final blow came during an exchange of sardonic speech with my friendly smiles and polite replies. I've been really nice talking to you tonight. Do reflect. I dont know why the need for one word replies, 'whatever', and all that what-nots. Ok so you apologised for that. After all, let me go. At least for now. Why hold on to me? And the good 4years we shared. There're tons of better woman out there. I dont deserve this. Upon reaching his main point bout religion, i brokedown. And wept.

Crazy Shtick
History: Jon & Trace. Ex sec sch mates. Sec 3 & 4, to be exact. Back then.. I'd think J's from another planet. The only similarity: We're lefties. T and I disliked each other in Sec 2, due to a dumbglareyouglareme incident at J8. We became friends & laughed over it when we were posted to the same class in Sec3. There's alot bout both of them, but thats not the point. Upon graduation, we barely kept in contact. Until thaat fateful morning, 10th May 2007.
J (www.bondevia.com) T (http://myurbancouture.livejournal.com/) and I were having a conference on MSN at 3am when we decided to meet up after half an hour of facetious talk. They cabbed down and we had McDonald's. There wasnt time for a warm up session thou we've not met the past 3years. Frolicking at Mc left me with mild stomach cramps from all that laughter.
Back home, we plunged right into a session of Uno Stacko and crazy notions. (Eg: Give yourself a tight slap, roll on the floor, hairdo, make up.. just to name a few.) Oh! Another forfeit was to eat reputably disgusting combat rations! Aint true! Combat rations frm NZ taste oh-so-good! Think curry rice with vege, pasta with chicken during warfare.
J became the target of asinine questions. (Eg: When was the last time you masturbated? Note: We skipped the 'Do you masturbate?')
And because words cant express.. And because there wouldnt be a replica of THAT night..
We are the epitome of Loony Academy!
Im a healthcare professional. My reputation will be tarnished if this gets around! I do hope the make up's adequately fugly to mask the real me!
to be continued.

Because bears eat fishies. :D The unnatural habitat of home bred guppies in a corner of the teak wood coffee table. Zero ecosystem.
Backgroud: a 19th birthday mosiac painting from lovely Sue. If u cant make out that star, u should click the 'x' on the top right of the screen (or top left if u're a Mac user) Here's OUR birthday celeb on 8th Nov 2006:

$119. Not versatile. Rental item. (Use once for a formal occassion. Fate: Retire in my mouldy wardrobe)

$89.90. Versatile. Pricey.
Solution: Purchase the dress, send for alteration (to a blouse) after the formal occassion. :)
Verdict: Not purchased.
Exposition: Trace and i shall get the blouse TOGETHER. Unfortunately (or rather fortunately) 1 piece left in store. Thus. Good bye pretty thing.
AND SHE'S THINKING BOUT THE oh-so-pretty-thing TOO.

Tracy is someone i'll never forget. (We're to choose a person whom we can relate Yellow to. I saw T in a beautifully tailored yellow blouse larhh. But i'll never forget her. ;) Thats not just to sound politically correct okay!)
Lil sis is my true friend.
Real love: Nic. (See what i call derisory!?)
Twin soul: Wei. (Ok. Maybe. Since we 'met' since kindergarden days.)
And i'll remember Cady for life. (Just because i relate Cady to green.)

LASIK 1st Review
Sunday.
Schedule:
8.45am LASIK 1st Review
10am Church
1230 Lunch
1300 Shopping (Tampines)
I met a 30odd yrs old female patient who did LASIK before i went under the knife. With her fairly sore and teary, she commented that my peepers look marvelously healthy. :)
At the registration counter, before i could complete my "Im Jovelle and here for 1st review", my case notes were placed before me for confirmation of identity. I was then called in, almost immediately, for a simple test before proceeding to the crowded waiting area. I anticipated a wait of at least an hour.
Amongst the familar faces, an Indo couple smiled at me. They were asking me bout post op instructions on surgery day. The clinic assistants did their best in explaining but failed to bring certain messages across. Unpremeditatedly, "How're you?", i asked. "Bagus," in unison. Before i could be a lovely Singaporean host and send my well wishes for a pleasant stay, i was called into DrYap's consultation room.
With that signature "Good morning, how're you?", i entered. "Fine and how're you?" came the reply. (The point here is.. I've been conditioned to greet everyone i meet, esp if its a 1-1 meet up. Thanks to 2years of clinical attachment which instilled this "etiquette". It might not be too good a thing, esp when the routine "good morning, how are you, have you had breakfast/lunch?" comes so naturally.. And end with a 'good day. thanks for coming'. Sincerity is questioned.)
Anyhows, my oculus were examined using the slit-lamp biomicroscope. Cornea on the left had some rough edges. I was directed to use antibiotic eyedrops 4times a day and lubricate eye drops as often as needed.
"Thank you, good day" All in less than 6mins.
A short conversation was exchanged with this male patient accompanied by his gf. At the end of it, i heard the gf say, "Why? Very happy huh.." Haha. Jealousy taking over? Hmmm.

LASIK
The day started with multiple sms-es of wellwishes from couple of concerned friends. :) Thanks to T & S (is N included?) who volunteered sending me there and back. Appreciated. But all of you know how i hate troubling others with my unnecessaries.
Mobile-check. Cash-check. Card case-check. Payment receipt-check. Sunglasses-check. Umbrella-check. iPod-check. Reader'sDigest-check.
The wait from scheduled appointment time till surgery proper's bout 110mins. I was walking in and out of the Surgery Room's waiting area for water while the others were discussing and worrying bout surgery proper. Totally puzzled with their concerns! *_*
My turn came 'sooner' than expected. I was waiting outside the washroom for my turn when the assistant went about asking all the gowned up folks if their name's JR. There she found me, shocked she was. "You arent prepared for surgery?" And i went, 'Oh its my turn!? Ok i'll gown up now'
So unprepared for! First time in this entire LASIK episode. Im usually the calm and cool one.. Who strongly belives that i'll be able to go through it, no sweat. Not anymore!
I stepped in and was a lil relieved to see Yap washing his hands. :)
My back laid on an inclined chair in an operating theatre containing the laser system. The laser system included a large machine with a microscope attached to it and a computer screen. I was put to the vulnerable supine position and moved 90deg. to be placed under the laser system. There i saw the legendary red flashing light. Actually, i saw orange light too! A head and neck support flled with 'sand' was placed. Time check: What seemed like 1 min.
Anasthetic drops were given (Works like magic!), the area cleaned (The assistant was ROUGH la!), lashes taped and a plastic shield was placed over the unoperated eye. My eye lids were held open with a lid speculum (dental folks call it retractor? It was uncomfortable.)
My vision was dimmed while a ring was placed on the eye and high pressures was applied to create suction. It was uncomfortable but tak sakit. The microkeratome (a cutting instrument) is attached to the suction ring. The blade of the microkeratome cuts a flap in the cornea. Reminds me of how gingiva tissues are incised. Here, i experienced the momentary loss of vision! Scary woooot! The instrument and ring was removed and blurred vision was experienced!! The flap was lifted and gently folded back on its hinge. I could see the stick like instrument finding its way to lift the flap! Site was then flushed with saline. My fists were clenched and more anaesthetic eye drops were instilled. Time check: What seemed like 3mins.
The laser was then positioned and i was asked to look straight and stare at THE light. The laser came on with a ticking sound. Now, fear gripped me. Lotsa thoughts ran through my mind. But i had to trust the expert larh.
The computer controls the amount of laser energy delivered. Before the start of surgery, Yap programmed the computer to vaporize a particular amount of tissue based on the measurements taken on initial evaluation. After the pulses of laser energy vaporize the corneal tissue, the flap is put back into position and irrigated with saline. Time check: What seemed like 2mins.
Ta dahhh. Right eye done.
Similar procedures for the left, with more fear, surprisingly.
The chair was raised and i could see again! As i sat on the clear acrylic swivel chair, i smiled, thumbs up and went 'great success'! Yap laughed. And so did his assistant. He did a check using the slit lamp biomicroscope (i think) and everything looked fine. He gave me a friendly pat on my back as i thanked him with teary eyes.
Antibiotic eye drops (TobraDex) was instilled (It stings!) and the shield was placed.
I: I look hideous right. Like a mosquito.
Clinic assistant: No. Like Spiderman.
HAHA. And to prove my point....

The glare from the sun casted a dizzy spell which went away the moment i stepped into the comfort of home. Ignoring the hunger pangs, i instilled a/b eyedrops and went to bed without the help of sleeping pills despite the onflowing concern of sms-es. Woke up at 6+pm. Whooopee! Clear vision albeit a lil blurrrry on the left side.
A list of post op instructions was issued before surgery.
Religious post op regime:
Antibiotic eyedrops: Stings a lil on the left eye initally till bout 3am. To be used HOURLY on 1st day, 4 times daily from 2nd to 10th day.
Lubricating eye drops were efficacious. To be used every 2hourly for the 1st mth, and as often on the 2nd and 3rd.
Lid care eye wipes: Soapy feel, no-rinse off needed. Used twice a day for 3days.
3 sleeping pills (IMOVANE) were dispensed. Had no need of them cuz i dont wanna pig out my Sat!
Thanks to the dedicated team at The Lasik Surgery Clinic, Dr Yap Soo Keong, dad who drove me home, lil sis who brought hungry me a glass of HL Banana milk, mum who's ever so worried, bro who verbally showed his concern. Not forgetting my dear friends who sent their well wishes, i love you all! xoxoxoxoxoxoxo!
LASIK's the BEST MEDICAL INTERVENTION. Bidding good byes to dry eyes from contact lens wear, dirty nose pads from spects, unbalanced glasses due to mishandlement, vigourous rubbing when tired/before bed, etc. HELLO WORLD!
Im so gonna take care of my eyes from now on. But i cant promise not washing my face for 2-3 days. Think Avene's tissue off no-rinse extremely gentle cleanser. Just nose and cheeks la. I wanna get kissed ya know.. And heading to the neighbourhood salon for a hair wash? Sounds good.
Have i told you bout how i love breaking rules? Eg: I wear knee length shorts to clinical attachment although long pants and skirts are allowed. :) I like the idea of.. combination, versatility, fugly. =)
Ok total damage for convenience sake: SGD 2649.30. Excludes charges for 2nd and 3rd reviews.
Oh yes! Here's a picture of the surgery and waiting area. Authorised personnels only!

Up and about! Life resumes.
Lil sis and i met up at Dhoby Gaut for dinner (MosBurger AGAIN.) While doing grocery shopping at Carrefour, we chanced upon a yummy looking sushi bowl and decided to get that for mummy's dinner/supper. Upon asking for its discounted price, the indian aunty gave me a wink and signalled me to hold on. The crowd grabbing individually wrapped sushi(s) at 3 for $1.30 cleared the next minute and she printed a $2 label for us. Gleefullness!

Its 6th May 3am. Time for bed. I heard the sirens of an emergency vehicle. They call it an ambulance. It is a specially equipped motor vehicle for carrying sick or injured people to a hospital(usually).

Almost Here
A recent conversation with * brought back evanescing memories of the yester years.
Partial lyrics of Almost Here kept ringing in my mind. "But when I need you You're almost here And I know that's not enough And when I'm with you I'm close to tears 'cause your only almost here"
Strangely, i couldnt recall any happy memories shared. The cognitive processes of beings is indeed complex.
Im so excited bout entering a world of perfect vision that i forgot the entire shit bout resting my hazelnuts.
I need to relearn bout placing my priorities right. Cuz time wasted can never be brought back, Opportunities let slip will never knock again.
And i recollect how * totally ignored me in my darkest times.
5 O'clock. The sizzling aroma of fried onions wafer up. And i just retired for 4th of May.

Pre Lasik Evaluation
LASIK Surgery is the MOST APPEALING option to rid bothersome spectacles sliding off my low and oily nose bridge and dry contact lens wear!
After faithful matt red frameless glasses lost in a war with mishandlement by its careless owner, it 'mysteriously' became one-legged the moment owner jr came back from slumberland. No accidents were reported by sister/room mate of jr. After using one day lenses (which's claims to be damn comfortable) and crippled glasses for a couple of days, i decided on LASIK surgery after success stories of 5 friends. Moreover, im more or less done with school and am training to be a sloth under the influence of significant others. For many, the main reason for LASIK's either comesis or convenience. Me-the latter. I love everything bout my handicapped glasses and dont mind being diggggged at for wearing glasses to an important function.
The analogy of going to a private eye practitioner is similar to an orthodontic consult. A private clinic has shorter appointment waiting lists, shorter waiting time, service orientated pleasant looking staff, no significant differences in prices compared to stat boards, etc.
Located right in the heart of Orchard Road, Paragon is renowned for its upmarket fashion labels and worldclass specialist medical services. It houses The Lasik Surgery Clininc at unit #13-01/06.
An appointment was a phone call away. I was greeted by a courteous operator and given a slot to come in the very next morning at 9.30am!
Upon arrival, I was attended to immediately. I requested for Dr SK Yap. The waiting area's spacious with adequate seats, reading material, internet access and a lil pantry are serving light snacks and instant beverages. A Chinese national was helping herself to all things edible but i had to stay away from cariogenic bad carb snacks. :( I know im getting pudgier as days go by and i dont want Yap to faint from breath odour!
Optometerists did the pre-LASIK eye examination which included the following:
1) vision testing to check the visual acuity
2) testing of the eye power (objective refraction)
3) subjective refraction to fine-tune the objective refraction
4) eye pressure checks for glaucoma (tonometry) [The optometerist let out an accidental shot of air which shocked the both of us. She apologised countless times!]
5) dilated pupil examination of the eye, with special attention to the clarity of the crystalline lens and excluding any retinal problems (such as retinal tears/retinal detachments) [I was momentarily shocked when the hazel wavelets of my irises were replaced by ultra huge pupils! This is what causes the glare, i think]
6) repeat testing of the eye power following the dilated pupil examination to detect any false myopia component (pseudomyopia)
7) measurement of the corneal thickness (pachymetry) to determine suitability for LASIK surgery (I had to repeat this procedure 4times. Ms Optom said either i moved (WHICH I DIDNT) or my lashes were too long ['is that a compliment?', i cheekily said.]
8) computerized mapping of the corneal surface to screen for irregular astigmatism and keratoconus. [Yap commented on my thick cornea!]
Following which was an approx10mins patient education clip on stylo mylo iMacG5, counselling session(think along the sake of informed consent) and a 40min wait for Yap.
The ang moh patient got a lil grouchy bout the long wait and started firing at the poor clinic assistant even after explaining that Yap's doing a procedure and has a patient(me) before him. Apologising for the long wait didnt spare her from the abundant fountain of expat saliva. Throughout, my brows were knitted with digust. I loathe patients who cant wait. Its like, EXCUSE ME SIR, if you aint got the time, reschedule your appointment since lasik's optional! The staff are here to serve but dont treat them like they owe YOU a living. Either you wait and be nice or (insert a vulgarity of your choice) off. Your slot can easily be filled. There they are slogging out and facilitating to serve you the best they know how and there you are, ass on the fluffy cushioned couch with a cuppa coffee watching Martha Stewart, totally uncouth!
Anyhows, Yap's a nice humble looking ophthalmologist who greeted me "Hello, hello, ni hao" which shook off all the tension in me. He did a detailed examination of the front part of the eye using a special instrument called a slit lamp biomicroscope, paying special attention to the cornea. He gave clear instructions. I was dismissed 5mins later to the payment counter.
An attractive staff came and instilled 2 kinds of eye drops after explaining the breakdown of charges.
A zillion thanks to Susanna Wong who told me bout SAFRA discount, slashing a significant (approx) SGD400 off the total bill! HAPPINESS + + + !!!
An even earlier appointment was given(Sat 1115am!) thou i prebooked a slot on Mon.
:)
Overall customer satisfaction (to date): 4.5 out of 5 dilated pupils.
The Lasik Surgery Clinic should use this as personal relations and give me a token of appreciation for such a whole and awesome review. Dont you agree?
Everyone's more worried than i am, esp Mum who kept grumbling bout the poor system at work cuz leave wasnt approved, who went on and on and on asking me to rest, post op care, finding someone to accompany me down, bringing sunglasses (OH YES! I CAN FINALLY PUT MY OAKLEY SHADES TO GOOD USE!!!!) mode of payment, and everything that i thought and knew what to do. Im not a lil girl anymore! I grew up long ago, momma. I think im THE KID who gives my parents the least worry. But the one who spends the most money (by working for herself okay! Aint no wastrel), although sometimes, being viewed by others as parsimonious.
Thanks to all my friends who apparantly are a lil like mum(Laughs out LOUD), i appreciate the thought. :)
Ok larh. I've to admit im a lil worried post op. =X
N's up next for LASIK pre evaluation on Wed! Grey irises the camera cant see.

I Me Myself-The Evil Trinity, Freak Accident
Personality
Its disgusting when one has an undue emphasis of self, basically,
1) self centered, (being absorbed in self)
2) self conceit, (exaggerated estimation of one's ability, an overconfidence in self, full of pride)
3) self willed, (stubborn, set on having his own way)
4) self indulge, (giving free course to one's own passions and inclinations)
5) self righteous, (righteous in one's own eyes)
6) self satisfied. (pleased with who and what one is)
Actions
While most people have performed a selfish act without realisation, it is probably more correct to say that "un-selfishness is a deliberate act, rather than selfishness, which tends to occur naturally."
Its a turn off meeting and getting to know a selfcentered being. The entire conversation gradually revolves all around him, and eventually this friendship consolidates into the hippocamus. And when i finally decide to give it another shot, it got no better.
Im not blameless to have cast the first stone. I respect my friends. I love my friends. To the extent i dont want them to remain the same. Hence, if you're truly a good friend of mine, i apologise for being blunt, but i do not hesitate in pointing out mistakes. Sadly, after being told more than once, he hasnt changed for the better. And i wish him all the best in his future endeavours as i move on (as i already had months ago), wishing mummy wont ask me bout this being anymore.
Sometimes i belive friends are here to stay, to be with you thru thick and thin (reminds me of kaya toast), toasted or soggy (just for kaya toast's sake). *Think fuglies. Other times, i believe friends come and go. *Like the many others in my phonebook.
But at all times, i'll not do anything that'll jeopardize the current relationships i have. I love and cherish all that i have right now.
I dont know where im heading to in this post. Im in serious sleep debt even after bulk of the rush is over. Never had the luxury of surfing for such long hours!
I went from informative points to rants to kaya toast to TALKING BOUT MYSELF (arhhh! Freaky!)
Oh yeah. A freak accident case presented at the clinic today. An incompetent lipped *Lisa walked straight into a freshly painted wall and fractured tooth #11. It was a 50% thru and thru chip with the incisive papillae holding the fragment in place. White flakes were excavated. To our pleasant surprise, it probably isnt any form of dental material but paint! Cut the long story short as its 6.40am, *Lisa had her meal, bathed, etc. before coming to the clinic. The fragment was bonded on ransom. :)
I'll be retiring for 2/5/07. As hawkers prepare for the morning crowd, i'll be curling up under the sheets, hoping beauty sleep be maximized. I wanna look radiant for my lil 'date' tomorrow!
"Hello Frodo!" "Sorry Sam, i forgot your breakfast"

Mah Jong
Here's how i spent the May Day. :)
Dad was sweet to have made his way from Bayshore Road(Eastern part of Sg), picked me up from home(Do i need to emphasize that i live near town?) just to send me to N's place(Northern part of Sg). Else it'd more than an hr to get there!
On a side note, I guess time heals all wounds. Cant help but reinforce that forgiveness comes before an apology. Live and let live, my friends. Laugh as much as you breath and love as long as you live. :)
Merci beaucoup[mer-see boh-koo] to N who was such a nice host! That darling boy served us like princesses, making sure there were enough chairs and getting us orange and sky juice.
Mahjong's the new 'healthy sport' that piqued my interest, thanks to CWK and Bondevia (http://www.bondevia.com/).
S, the self acclaimed God of Mahjong, did his utmost best in teaching me bout "prevailing wind" and "game wind". Amounted to nothing as i proceeded directly to gameplay. The experienced can have that calculated while i focus on getting LadyLuck smile at me. ;)
Dont the chinese characters of 7 and 9 look alike!?
I wanted to form sequence (a set of 3 tiles of the same suit, in consecutive values)

but ended up 'aborting' the game when i 'gamed' with

J: I thought my Chinese's bad enough. Yours's worst.
I make a perfect B Chinese candidate, dont you think?
Not forgetting N's feline friends, kitten Frodo and fat cat Sam. :) Frodo's damn cute and has 'something' for me. Im gonna visit him soon! Grow up and fool around cause you're not sterilised!

Wee Nam Kee
Apologies to N, misjudgement in travel times. thanksforwaiting!
Headed for Novena Ville's Wee Nam Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice stall, al fresco style.
The rice was richly flavoured with ginger & garlic, wasn't too greasy or clumpy. Doused with a light soya sauce dressing, the perfectly cooked meat's tender and juicy. On each table are bottles of garlic-chilli sauce, ginger, dark soy sauce and the works.
Roast chicken is actually Cantonese cuisine in origin, but they serve it too, for variety's sake?
The rice's addictive but i managed to restraint (1/2 a plate) due to health constraints.

Next stop was LiquidKitchen@Thomson.Each time a goal is scored on EPSN, cute waitresses go round taking your 30% discounted orders, does not apply for the first order. :) Its a familar hang-out spot. The only difference-splendid company and grey irises.
Its 5.15am. I hear the shutters of market stalls. Another day has begun. Mine ended.
I wanna hang out at the beach with a couple of friends, chatter and observe the transition as dawn breaks.

Kel's 20!
Thanks to CWK and Chen mama for hosting an impromtu mini gathering. It was a hell load of fun meeting up ex school mates, NE liner cum subclique member CYY, chowing on sinful pizza, gluping tooth eroding cola and partaking kfchicken soaked in 2001 shivaz cabernet.
Sherm sure did a good job being the GameMaster!
1. Clapping game. Forfeit was to eat kfchicken dipped in wine. Having chicken breast meat made it worst. Think bout signature ColonelSanders 11herbs&spices seasoning recipe soaked in unpalatable (to me) wine.
2. Goggles up! was hilarious.
3. Idiot Card Game. (Nettx). Somewhat like HeartAttack or SharkAttack as what some call it, it was Idiot Attacked for Nick. His desperate attempt to get some into his caste system was a tough but successful one. It subsequently became useless when everyone began shutting him out. No one dared to speak till he sportingly quaffed his forfeit. Is that conditioning at work or what.
4. Mafia. Hail the Queen of Mafia-Me! Poor Nich got arrowed in EVERY panel and is superb with his defence speeches while Sherm's the best-est narrator. Clara is too sweet and gentle to be true. But couldnt get away faking that she isnt a Mafia. I smiled the widest, laughed the loudest, winked the cheekiest yet didnt get discovered being a Mafia, but and was accused Mafia when i really was a lowly town peasant.

Lass: (Left) Carmen, Clara, Lynette, Wei, Jiemei, Me
Lad: (Left) Sherman, Jenwei, Jonathan, Richard, Nicholas.
Not forgetting KinMay the Aunty Sha Shou who left early. :)

Advertisment/PR ?
I was about to do a mini 'advert' for http://myurbancouture.livejournal.com/ when i wasnt sure to title it as Advertisement / Public Relations. And so for the sake of my dental mates (? solely kellylogy cuz carrie and the others are either lost or unaware of whats cooking in here), i present to u a lil article bout the differences between advertising and PR.
ˆThe key word is credibility!
Advertising is a biased message paid for by a company with a selfish interest in what the consumer consumes. Nothing wrong with that in itself. But do you believe what you read or hear in an advertisement?
Conversely, do you believe what you read in the editorial sections of the newspaper or the radio and television news reports? Generally, the answer is an emphatic YES.
Research shows that PR has six times more credibility and understanding than advertising. Until a new brand has some credentials in your mind, the impact of advertising will be limited. You can't build a brand if you can't win the battle for the mind.
Advertising does not build brands, it defends them.
How do people make decisions about new services or products? Most people determine what is best by finding out what other people think is best - and the two major sources for making that determination are the media and word of mouth.
PR is not a panacea. There are side effects.
you can't control the content, timing, visual appearance of your message,
you can't even be assured your message will be delivered
you can't rush the process
But the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.
Advertising is incredible; PR is credible
Advertising is expensive; PR is inexpensive
Advertising is short term; PR is long term
So, next time you're about to dig deep in your advertising pockets, spare a thought for public relations - at the start of your campaign. PR should be an integral part of your pre-planning, not an add on.
You decide if its advertising or PR.
Upnext, if a-d-v-e-r-t-i-s-e-m-e-n-t is pronounced as "ad-ver-tahyz-muhnt" or "ad-vur-tis-muhnt". From what i know, the former's an American way of pronounciation, while the latter's British. :)

Say "Cheese!"
With graduation round the corner, everyone's snapping away! This post is dedicated to a lady with hazel brown eyes, ounces of body fats here and there just to compliment -me. And to Fuglians who's always ready with molar-molar smiles.
"Ah! I look blubbery! Delete that N-O-W!" You dont know how depressing it gets when i need to take 10 shots to capture that O-N-E perfect shot.
Ever been tempted to destroy a picture because your eyes were closed or because the camera added those pounds? Blame it on lighting.
Slate says "The flat, even illumination on the red carpet makes it hard for the camera to capture dimension, unlike in a photo shoot with flattering soft lights. Cast from an angle, light creates shadows that sculpt the face and body by hiding unwanted flesh. Softer lights can hide wrinkles and smooth out the skin for women, while harsher lights on male faces exaggerate lines for a chiseled look. Without the aid of shadows, however, light exposes the imperfections of the face and body and makes the resulting image bigger and flatter."
With point and shoot digital cameras, the flash is located in a place that does not flatter peoples faces. But if you turn the camera upside down and capture, the light comes from below, taking out dark circles under the eyes and smoothens out the face. Putting a coffee filter over the flash helps soften the light.
Unlucky for us, we don't have the luxury of having our own lighting technician casting light in all the right angles. Here's secrets to looking thinner in photos.
1) Turn partially sideways, planting one foot in front of the other.
2) Pull your head forward to eliminate double chin. (Try reaching your soft palate with the tip of your tongue. I do that if i remember =X )
3) Hold arms slightly away from the body. (Minuses the flabby triceps)
4) Take a deep breath as you pull your shoulders back, chest forward. (Forget bout KD's signature slouch!)
5) Look away from the camera, then turn towards it, breaking into a smile before the camera clicks. (Not gonna work if HPB's folder runner Osman the photographer-he doesnt give warnings & audaciously flashes a smirk. Know how your photographer counts. Eg: "Helen" counts 1,2,snap.)
6) Dont wear too low cut a shirt if you're top heavy. (Save boobs from disgrace, pls)
7) Everyone knows that wearing black gives a thin illusion. But if you don't want to wear black in all of your pictures, make sure your undergarments aren't too tight. Those bulges under a bra line show up a lot worse in pictures. (Consolation for cwk and i for being not as well endorsed as the other 4 fuglians)
Confidence captured in an image is sexier then any tense aritificial pose. You're beautiful. Embrace every bit of yourself. Ten years from now, those "extra" pounds are not gonna matter. What matters is the special moments captured.
But if you're corpulent due to diet issues, stop whining and quit munching on whatever-hooks-you, hit the swimming pool/gym: with me. :)
Anorexic looking lassies lack sex appeal. Get your fair share of chocolates!
While many people see chocolate as a wicked indulgence and health purists deny themselves its pleasures, recent research shows that good-quality chocolate has health benefits.
Chocolate
1) Is highly seductive. Even the smell of it slows brain waves, inducing a sense of calmness. Rated for a pleasant odor and being relaxing.
2) Causes the brain to release endorphins, the natural opiates that are our pleasure chemicals, and a compound in chocolate, phenylethylamine (PEA), is supposed to stimulate the same reaction in the body as falling in love.
If you feel inclined to eat 25 pounds of chocolate at one sitting, you might feel the effects of the chemicals in chocolate which are similar to those produced by marijuana.
3) Has nutritional value as it contains a reasonable quantity of magnesium and iron, 50 milligrams and 1.2 milligrams respectively in 1.75 ounces of plain chocolate. The same amount of milk chocolate has 110 milligrams of calcium.
4) 1.5 ounces of chocolate, or a cup of cocoa made with 2 tablespoons of powder, had about the same amount of antioxidant phenolic compounds as a glass of red wine.
5) Flavonoids contained in chocolate seem to reduce the time it takes for blood to clot, which might lower the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
6) A Harvard University study of 8,000 men over 65 found that, on average, those who ate chocolate lived a year longer than those who didn't. This was put down to the polyphenol antioxidant compounds in the chocolate.
Dr David Southgate writes in a review of Chocolate and Cocoa: Health and Nutrition in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition: "Clearly the antioxidant potential of cocoa is very high."
7) Fats in chocolate come from three sources: the cocoa bean, vegetable oils & milk. The fat in the cocoa is stearic acid, a saturated fat, and this makes up about 30 percent of the fat content of a bar. But while we usually think of saturated fats as unhealthy, the stearic acid from chocolate converts partly into oleic acid in the body, a monounsaturated fat of the kind found in olive oil, which is linked to health benefits. There are mixed reports about the advantages of this fat profile. It does not raise the damaging LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol levels, which is good as far as heart disease is concerned, but it seems that the good HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol is suppressed, as are other compounds, which could suggest an increased risk of heart disease. Conversely, the antioxidant compounds in chocolate help to protect from heart disease.
In people prone to migraines, amine compounds in chocolate can trigger attacks, as sufferers have low levels of an enzyme, phenol-suphotransferase, to process them. Yet because cocoa reduces blood platelet adhesion, which can lead to headaches, it may be beneficial for other people.
In research published in the EJCN, a cup of cocoa made with water was just as effective at limiting platelet stickiness as aspirin though the same effects cannot be expected of cocoa made with sugar and milk.
Chocolate: Cavity Fighter?
Some health benefits may be even more surprising. A report in New Scientist discussed a compound found in the cocoa bean husk that could help to cut tooth decay. The compound is found mainly in the husk, but some still finds its way into chocolate, and the cocoa butter that coats the teeth is thought to protect teeth by preventing plaque from forming.
When cocoa-bean husk was added to the drinking water of rats, they had half as many cavities when fed a sugary diet than those not given the compound. Dr David Beighton, of Guy's, King's & St Thomas' Dental Institute in London, says these compounds certainly had an effect, but that good oral hygiene is still the best way to healthy teeth.
The problem with chocolate is that we often do not know when to stop, and most of our intake is not always of the best quality. Most popular chocolate products have sugar as the main ingredient, and high fat
levels.
The answer may be to eat high quality dark chocolate with a 60 to 70 percent cocoa solid content (normal dark chocolate has around 30 percent). As they are very rich, a little goes a long way. And high-cocoa chocolate can be suitable for diabetics as it does not create a blood sugar rush in the same way that high-sugar chocolate does. Chocolate has low levels of caffeine; its main stimulant is theobromine, which has a much milder effect. And the darker the chocolate, the higher the amounts.
There may also be a case for organic varieties, as the pesticide lindane, linked to breast cancer, has been found in chocolate. The chemical is in the process of being banned for use here but is still used in developing countries.
Craig Sams, of the chocolate producer Green & Black's, is a committed campaigner for organic food production. "The cocoa bean is a remarkable food as long as it is eaten in good-quality, high-cocoa mass chocolate." he says. But most chocolate consumed has as little as 10 to 20 percent cocoa mass, with a lot of sugar and hydrogenated vegetable fats. If it is not organic, it is usually heavily sprayed because cocoa is such a valuable crop.
"Ah! I look blubbery! Delete that N-O-W!" You dont know how depressing it gets when i need to take 10 shots to capture that O-N-E perfect shot.

Gecko
I rode through a cloud today.
Why the social stigma attached to body art? It has a magnificant history! Why the increasing number of clients at tattoo studios? (Clients are aged between 18-early 30s) Why removal via laser treatment when there'll be scars? Why even get one when its eventual outcome is an unsightly scar?
I've never paid much attention to the gecko on me, nor given much thought bout why/how i decided on it. Why not a dolphin, fluttery butterfly or Tinkerbell?

Definately not a temporal excitement as i had the stencil of it with me for months before visiting D at 17 Baghdad Street and im not one who make impulsive decisions. Yet, at that time, i was telling a classmate; 1 life live it. and another; you dont gather courage to ink it-you just do it.
And there i was, somewhere Sept/Oct 2006, seated in front of the artist's desk, legs crossed while improving & perfecting art, debating on size, etc. I placed full trust in the hands of the professionals, there were not much questions asked. The next 35mins were spent clenching (of teeth) in pain with whimpers fading into the 'drilling' sounds of the machine. It sure was nasty.

My new found mate was wrapped in shrink wrap
as we made our way for yummy murtabak supper. I was instructed to slather on moisturizer every other hour and to stay away from swim and sun for 2weeks. The punctured wound
scabbed
and wala!
Mum was totally cool bout it when i told her of the nights' adventures. So was dad when my new found friend peeked out of my hipster shorts during supper at Prata House a few weeks later.
Till now, i do not know how an idea of a cold blooded got onto me. Probably taking after its characteristics, having unique vocalizations(among lizards), being unusual in other respects, an ability to shoot an irritating liquid out of the end of their tails. Above all, specialized toe pads that enable them to climb smooth vertical surfaces and even cross indoor ceilings with ease.
I enter this post with much difficulty in articulating what really is inside me.
Kel, this's for you.
And the only regret? A tad too small.
D was right. You never stop at one. You'll regret if the size isnt right. Next up: Colours flatter fair skinned!
