Tanglin Village was lush, leafy haven which used to house an army camp. After a major makeover, it is now home Singapore's largest alfresco bar, Oosh. Adorned with wood, ferns and waterfalls, the common area(The Garden) serves Western cuisines. Housed in the common area is also a wine and cigar bar, and a Japanese restaurant sits on the second floor.
Contary to the reviews of others, service was prompt and acceptable. We pulled over at the porch and was greeted by valet($5) assistants and directed to the main counter. I didnt figure a pretty runner to be in her black lil dress-wear a name tag or a corporate shirt please! Our reservation which was originally made at 9.30pm wasn't updated. That aside, when seated, the menus were brought and the waiters dropped by more often than expected. After taking our orders, utensils that would not be of use were cleared. And till now, I've not figured if the management's sexist. I was served a shorter glass of water as compared to N.
Soup of the day: Tomato Soup. Rich and smooth. A tad too salty.
Our palates were treated to a divine combination of
Roasted Lamb Rack($33) Perfected medium rare. Served with thin slices of stacked potato and maple soy glaze. Mutton-Soft, tender, lacks pungent smell. (Major Chan: Mutton is an acquired taste. << NOT TRUE. Does not apply to carnivores.) Potato-Interestingly sweet.
Grilled Beef Tenderloin($33) Prefected medium rare with herb mashed potato and mushroom gratin. Beef-juicy. "Hermalgamated" mash-flavourful. Mushroom gratin-a lil too creamy and overpowering.Disappointment of the day: Apple tart and choice of Hagen's ice cream($13). Laced with slices of kiwi, strawberries and blueberries. Tart-Disgustingly thick. Baked apple-Alright, larh. 'Crumble'-didnt crumble. Rock hard. The only consolation was Hagen's Macademia Nut Ice Cream.
Midway through dinner, live bossanova tunes were sang at The Lookout. I was immersed in bliss that balmy night. It was a unique experience and would definately be back again.
Total damage(inclusive of service charge and GST): SGD 86.
